America is a Christian nation?
Did our founding fathers actually intend for America to be considered a Christian nation?

“Lighthouses are more useful than churches.” – Benjamin Franklin

“This would be the best of possible worlds if there were no religion in it.” –John Adams

“Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man.” – Thomas Jefferson

Thomas Jefferson even revised the Christian Bible by removing all of the references to Jesus being a divine being and called it The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth

*edited the title of the book*

Re: America is a Christian nation?
From Entropy's link to The Nation article:

In 1797 our government concluded a "Treaty of Peace and Friendship between the United States of America and the Bey and Subjects of Tripoli, or Barbary," now known simply as the Treaty of Tripoli. Article 11 of the treaty contains these words:

As the Government of the United States...is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion--as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity of Musselmen--and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

This document was endorsed by Secretary of State Timothy Pickering and President John Adams. It was then sent to the Senate for ratification; the vote was unanimous. It is worth pointing out that although this was the 339th time a recorded vote had been required by the Senate, it was only the third unanimous vote in the Senate's history.

James Madison:

"...religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprize."

He [also] spoke of the "almost fifteen centuries" during which Christianity had been on trial: "What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity, in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution."

Praise The Holy Of Holy :: Mat 13:24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
Mat 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
Mat 13:26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
Mat 13:27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
Mat 13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
Mat 13:29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
Mat 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn Praise The Lamb:: Amen Both his and yours are raised together !!
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.Praise the one who gives you peace beyond all understanding Yes that scripture still sounds good !

Thank you. I guess I'm just going to have to burn then, eh? If you can't add to the discussion regarding America's foundations that many claim to be Christian in origin, then skip the insults and move on.

I already realize that the bible has many verses that were written to keep people from wandering to the unknown. It didn't stop me then, it won't now.

Satanist are always concerned with this because of the occult practice of "establishing a benchmark". Christians had a lot of pull in the founding of our Nation, however there was an occult cabal of the elite, Jefferson being one of them, who wanted this Nation to be the "new Atlantis"; and freemasons today still hold to that occult dream of a utopian society.

The troubling issue here to me is why does someone feel it is so important to undermine the very established fact that "IN GOD WE TRUST" is imbedded throughout our nations history, our lives as Americans. Why does it offend people? The real question is why do so many feel its necessary to chastize Christianity and its place in history in our current lives?

I am not a chruch goer, I am not a bible thumper, actually I am a sinner who owes my life to Jesus.. but what I really am is someone who believes "evil" has a hand in the anti Christain nonsense!

Only Satanist who have a mission to defile the faith of Christians have the real motivation to do that, so go sell your "I don't believe in a devil" to some more simple minded sheeple, because I'm not buying it.

God is a universal name referring to a universal being (according to those who founded America).

Christianity has certainly rooted itself in history, among others. Have we ever thought to ask why? ...who you think I am is not up to me.

After reviewing acknowledgments of God from all 50 state constitutions, one is faced with the prospect that maybe, the ACLU and the out-of-control federal courts and you are wrong!

Re: America is a Christian nation?
The troubling issue here to me is why does someone feel it is so important to undermine the very established fact that "IN GOD WE TRUST" is imbedded throughout our nations history, our lives as Americans. Why does it offend people? The real question is why do so many feel its necessary to chastize Christianity and its place in history in our current lives?

I am not a chruch goer, I am not a bible thumper, actually I am a sinner who owes my life to Jesus.. but what I really am is someone who believes "evil" has a hand in the anti Christain nonsense!

God is a universal name referring to a universal being (according to those who founded America).

Christianity has certainly rooted itself in history, among others. Have we ever thought to ask why? ...who you think I am is not up to me.

Re: America is a Christian nation?
ALL I CAN SAY IS WRONG!

President Barack Obama said in Turkey : "We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values."

I found this very interesting.
Do you know the Preamble for your state? .. .

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 689210

1)I didn't see the name Jesus on that list. 2)The founding fathers believed in God, but they didn't think he was Jesus.

These are most likely meant to refer to the Christian God, but the United States Constitution does not reflect that position, considering those that wrote it.
"The Christian resolve to find the world evil and ugly, has made the world evil and ugly."
- Friedrich Nietzsche

"There's no way to rule innocent men.
The only power government has is the power to crack down on criminals.
Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them.
One declares so many things to be a crime
that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws."
~ Ayn Rand 1905-1982
