Great thread - many great ideas! I'd like to add to it...

I started a home-based medical billing business so that I could stay home with my three kids in the 90's. My kids are all grown now and 2 out of the 3 have their own home-based medical billing businesses.

My son just took a vacation to Europe and took his business with him. The money is very good.

Median salary is 35,000. I dont see that as great money.

The median salary is for a medical billing employee, working within a physician's office, hospital or clinic.

When you own your own business, you charge a percentage of collections (monthly) to each client. You can safely average each client at around $1500 - 2000 monthly.

At the height of my business, I had 47 clients.

So, you see, there is no comparison between what a business makes and what a salaried employee makes.

Interesting. Asid e from course costs it seems you also need yo buy a biz starter package which is highlighted in your second link? Ho wmuch is that? How easy is it to get clients? because the most difficult thing in any business is getting clients. The sites you linked yo make it sound that clients fall off trucks. Whereas my experienc in building a client base is it is a slog, takes times, and you continually need to find new ones. I am only asking because people thinking of soing this need ro know the costs. time to get qualigied and time to get clients.

How many hours did you work on average per month? are you saying you made about $1,500 *47 clients a month??

cheers
