Curse words, how do we define them?
So my friend and I have been kinda debating, what does define a curse word? Is it the word or how it's used? Like if someone drops an f-bomb in conversation or as a joke, is that different from saying it out of anger, or is the word bad no matter what?
No one is perfect. A babe before walking will first stumble and fall many times but NEVER gives up until he succeeds.

Always remember, ultimately, to never follow any person's belief. Your relationship with God is between you and God.

If nothing else, remember this: religion = subservience, control and conformity, the same template as EVERY government

"Most believers would kill truth if truth threatened their religion." L. K. Washburn

"This crime called blasphemy was invented by priests for the purpose of defending doctrines not able to take care of themselves." Robert Ingersoll

"If anyone wants to know how God feels, it's a warm light as if the sun is poking through dark clouds and lifting your spirits with pure joy."

Most, not all, have to do with body parts or bodily functions.

All I know is the seven words you can't say on t.v...fuck...shit...piss...damn...cocksucker...motherfucker....and tits!!But as far as what is accetable or appropriate one would have to use ones own self control pertaining to the situation. But intelligently speeking, rational thought would dictate that one would not need such slang as to prevert the english language in such a manor as to embarras ones self or anyone else.(also it is a bad habit to get into!)conscious thought and awareness that one might have a problem is the first step to correcting the problem. And of course if all else fails,FUCKIT!!!and just use your normal speech paterens.Although this atitude may not always be the best recourse for making friends or getting along in life.(im just saying)

Re: Curse words, how do we define them?
The word used is irrelevant, its the intent behind it.

People who say fudge instead of fuck are still cursing, for instance.

Re: Curse words, how do we define them?
i've always found it odd that words that describe parts of the body and acts of procreation/love are considered 'bad' words. in fact they are all natural.

whereas words like kill, murder, torture and so on - are not considered a 'curse' word.

in my eyes, if its in the dictionary then who am i to say what is allowed to be said? as long as its with good intention.

just my ideas and not to everyones taste, i know.
happy now?

Re: Curse words, how do we define them?
Some Preacher/Leader just makes up a word and then announces that it should never be uttered again.
That's it!

Now if you dare utter the word, you will be punished by the Preacher/Leader or one of their followers.

Basically it is how Religion and Goverment work...comes right down to control.

Re: Curse words, how do we define them?
In my view, cursing has to do with inappropriate expressions involving the deity. Everything else is scatological.
