Who here is an insomniac? Longest you've been sleep deprived?
Ugh... this is crazy.

I had a nap of 3 hours recently.

Before that, I was up for over 15 hours, since the night of the 21st.

I'm sure I'm gonna sleep soon though... body is losing energy.

Also... has anyone ever functioned solely on naps?

I have, but I realized I need 3 sets of naps per 24 hours. Or 2.

Any herbal supplements which help with sustaining cognitive ability and function whilst sleep deprived? Marijuana helps me with this, and I can attempt to sleep at any time but my mind is just so full of ideas and thoughts.

Thanks. =D

15 hours? That's it? I was just up for 48, and worked 22 hours during that time.

The sunrise is when sleep deprivation hits me the hardest, so I practice Tai Chi around that time, or will meditate.

Vitamin C seems to keep me focused for some reason, as well as the normal A/B/C/D vitamins.

Valerian root capsules will help you sleep. I have trouble, too. Also, there's a bach flower essence spray that helps- sorry I can't recall the name. It's usually sold beside Rescue Remedy (same maker).

I had trouble sleeping the night before, I had to get up around 6am and went to bed around 3am and tossed and turned until 5:30am before the alarm went off I finally fell asleep but yeah that was a waste. I should have realized the number one thing to get me to fall asleep instantly is to set my alarm to go off 15min after going to bed, to simulate that feeling of having to get up in the morning hehe.

My record isn't 15 hours, it's 4 days - around 90 hours, lol.

I was hallucinating, and was basically detached psychologically. It was an intense trip but it was also somewhat scary, because on the 4th day I was outside and hallucinating in the day time.

I love, for some reason, waiting for the sun to rise. It really does something to me emotionally, and I love it. I fall asleep much better in the early morning hours (4-6am).

2am here now and I don't think I'll sleep until 5am.

Good call on the vitamins - I need to get me some. Vitamin C for sure - won't go through the trouble of figuring out which B-complex I need. C, and D for now. :)

Meditation definitely gives me back energy. I really need to try and focus on meditating more often.

I also read somewhere that we really just need 2 hours of REM sleep to survive, as a species, as humans, whatever.

3 days straight, trying to get back to my base in England from the U.S. around Christmastime in the 80's. Never even got to sleep on the plane and was so exhausted I caught mono.

Around 48 hours for me. I wasn't hallucinating yet but I had begun to lose most of my cognitive functions.

Around 3 days for me. My heart started beating irregularly so I decided to go to sleep. It wasn't a good sign that the walls had started to melt aswell.

4 days... i often go long stretches with no sleep, just wired that way i think :-)

You call that insomnia? Try 96 hours straight some time, then you will know the true reality of sleep deprivation.

Last summer I went 6 days with no sleep.

It was horrible, my muscles started to really hurt all over after 2 days, and around the 4th day when I'd look at things, at first I'd see nothing or sort of a grey haze, and after some seconds would pass, what I was looking at would come into focus.

The last night there was no pain at all, I started hallucinating and heard music that was not there. I oddly felt kind of good that night. I felt like I might die from it and I wonder if it could have caused any permanent damage to my body.

Nothing like that had ever happened to me before and it was bad.

Wow I can relate.

Especially the bold part. Euphoria sets in and anxiety increases but you're, at the same time, more relaxed. It's a strange feeling but it does feel great. Of course, not great constantly... but at least for a short period of time.

I've heard music that was not there before as well. That is usually past day 2/3. Sometimes the music was so beautiful that it just did not sound man-made, lol.

3 days in the Army....carrying a heavy pack and constantly on the move during summer...I fell asleep standing up when it was over...we actually had guys that fell over and fast asleep during patrols....a few guys hallucinated to the point they were talking to people that ain't there...it wasn't the sleep deprivation so much as the combination of heat and exhaustion added in that made it so hard...the mind numbing haze was a bit easier for me cuz I was the team leader and activities like radio use and map reading kept me alert....I slept 18hrs when it was all over...

Re: Who here is an insomniac? Longest you've been sleep deprived?
The longest ive gone without sleep would be over 48 hours, when i was going through my insomnia id get about 2-3 hours sleep a night that would happen for about 4 days in a row then id be so screwed id sleep for 12 hours in one day then the cycle would repeat it was horrible until i went to the doctors after about a month and got some temazepam (the doctors wanted to put me on anti depressants hah) Anyways some good herbal things for sleeping would either be Valerian Root or Melatonin both are much safer non addictive sleeping aids when compared to things like benzos & ambien.

Goodbye, halcyon days...

There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened.

"Andy Gardner holds a Guinness world record for the longest period of time a human being has intentionally gone without sleep not using stimulants of any kind. In 1964, as a 17-year-old high school student in San Diego, California, Gardner stayed awake for 264 hours (11 days)."

i go through several periods a year of getting by on naps, two a day of maybe 40 minutes each. lately, i feel only slightly 'out of it' during these times. on 9-11 i stayed up over 36 hours straight, and i was not even directly affected by the tragedy.

I had this problem for 3 months. Only fell asleep for about a hour if i was totally exhausted. Which came about every other day.

Your mind has some shit to process.
Deal with it or it will eat you alive.
