Tens of thousands of toads are taking over a Marysville neighborhood hopping into yards, homes and driveways.

The toads all hatched at Ele Lake. The Department of Fish and Game says the toad population increased because all the fish in the lake died from last summers drought.

The fish normally eat some of the toad eggs to keep the population down.

Now, the toads are hopping across the streets and into people's front and backyards.

Department of Fish and Game field worker Dale Whitmore says he's never seen anything like it in his 25 years on the job.

"They've just exploded. And the neighbors around here have been calling wondering if this is going to go on forever," said Whitmore. "

These particular toads are called Western Toads. The toads are about the size of a quarter. By the end of summer, those that survive will be as large as a human fist.
