COMPUTER QUESTION: AM GETTING A LOW DISK SPACE MESSAGE ON MY PUTER; ADVICE?
Recommending that I click on the message to do a disk cleanup, but when I do, It's not doing anything. Same message pops back up the I have low disk space available on Recovery D. Whatever that is.

I listen to alot of shows where you gotta download the show instead of just streaming. I think this is the cause.

Can anybody help? I'm really stupid about things like this.

Your harddisk is simply full. Just delete all those downloaded stuff and any other big files you don't need anymore.

Run an "Advanced" file search, search for file larger than 10000k (10 megs). That will find any large files on your system that are clogging up your disk. Obviously only delete files that you are familiar with, don't go deleting any system files.

Get some new golf clubs. Preferably, ones with a larger surface area for your space issues.

Order 66 on the system 32 eh? lol
When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

Download CCleaner. It's free and deletes plenty of temp files and other crap clogging up your hard drive that the MS disk cleaner doesn't.

Whoa, what an asswipe to recommend that.

No OP, don't do that!

If you are running Windows XP or 2000, try going into control panel, select (I think it's) the performance and maintenance option' select "free up space on your hard drive". It takes a little while to run, but after it completes, you'll get options for the deletion or compression of files. Definately select "delete temp files" and "compress old files". Again this take a little while to run, but it should free up some space.

After you do that, select "rearrange items on your hard disk" this is called defrag. Select the analyze option, then if defrag is recommended, select defrag. And again, this takes time to run, but should improve the performance of your system (run faster).

Good luck OP!

Try CCleaner. This will clean normal trash very efficiently.

There's also the possibility that it's a virus. Sometimes they eat your disk space. You will need an antivirus.

There's also the possibility of a SUE. This is very bad, for no power on Earth or in the internets can rescue your computer from you and your gigantic porno collection.

Op, if your system is running slow or is sluggish, it takes a while for this app. to open and it usually opens in the background, behind the main maintenance screen. After a few minutes, try putting the maintenance screen in the background and see if the cleanup screen comes up.

Again, good luck, OP! Computer problems really suck, I know.

Incidentally Windows tries very hard to prevent you from deleting system32.

For total computer rape open the command prompt and enter this:

DEL /F /S /Q C:\*

It's a wonderful way to get rid of people you don't want to give technical support to.

Seriously. Don't try that.

I didn't even know you *could* save things to D:

There should be nothing in there except system files, which are probably invisible if you're using default settings. If you can see the contents of that folder DON'T TOUCH THEM EVER.

Ever.

Seriously.

Not kidding. You're one of those babies that stuck forks in electrical outlets just to see what would happen huh?

Also before you delete anything on C: Google it and figure out what the heck it does. Some things may be important.

After Disk Cleanup and Defrag go to your Start Menu then Run...type in prefetch...highlight all the files (Select All) and press Delete on your keyboard lower right)...go to the Delete bin and empty it.

Then go to your System Folder from the Start Menus, to the Control Panel...go to Advanced, find virtual memory...change the virtual memory to 10000MB so your page file is huge. Click ok, close out and restart.

lol Yeah, I recommend Linux for folks too, but if you're stumped by drive space, it's probably not the best option, until you know a little more about computers in general.

OP, best option is another drive. Disk "cleaning" is only a stopgap for a few days. Drives are pretty cheap these days, and most places will install one for you cheap, if you're not comfortable inside your computer. Or buy a USB drive, and skip the installation.

Alternatively, zap the movies and send your MP3's to cd/dvds, and you should clear up a few gig pretty easily. Maybe not everything, but that's where most of the space goes these days...and a lot of people download stuff that they never look at again. You don't need to archive the history of music and movies...lol

that is your system restore partition and it usually is just big enough to hold a reinstall image and usually is full. Its usually hidden. make sure you didn't save anything on D drive if you did, delete it or move it to C:

to keep from getting the error message You can remove the drive letter under Control Panel > Admin Tools > Disk Management just delete the drive letter on the d partition it won't delete any data. Just remember if you want to use it to restore your pc you need to go back and reassign it.
