I am starting to have doubts that my garden or the corn and bean crops around my house are going to make this summer. Family members are wearing sweats tonight, on the first of July. I cannot believe the American people buy this global warming crap, and I cannot believe that people are going to sit by idly while all the products they buy are going to shoot up in price, and their utility bills this coming very cold winter are going to skyrocket. I have lost faith in the American people. Who won the ball game today, anyway? That's what's important. |

Yes, they can...then the bill will go to conference committee between the House and Senate for the compromise legislation. Unfortunately for the GOP, none of their amendments are getting attached...and with unfunny Al Franken joining the club the Dems have a filibuster-proof majority. Anonymous Coward User ID: 716222 United States 07/02/2009 01:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | How out of touch with reality are the Dems these days to think this is what their constituents want? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 654537They don't care what you and I want. We are not their "constituents". Big Money is their constituents. I learned that hard truth when, horrified, I watched every Dem vote for every Banker Bailout. After 30 years of voting straight Dem, I thought I must be seeing things. I called A LOT of Dem. reps. on the Hill and talked to their staffers. I pleaded with them to not waste our money on these thieves. I knew We the People would NEED that $$ for things like schools, health care, jobs, etc. when TSHTF. The first couple bailouts, it was easy to get throughon the phones. Not many Americans were paying attention yet to what was going down. This was two and a half years ago. All the Dems were for the bankers, most, MOST (80%) of the Repubs did NOT want to bail the Bankers. So I called and called the Dems. Finally, I told the staffers I would never EVER vote Dem again. NEVER. If they kept on Bailing the Banks with Our Money. By the Fannie/Freddie/Foreign Bond Holder Bailout, to my relief, when I called the Dems in Congress, the lines were absolutely JAMMED. FOR A WEEK. EVERYBODY WAS CALLING. I found out that the calls went THREE HUNDRED to ONE AGAINST the Bailout. Did the Dems care? NO THEY DID NOT. They voted 229 Yea, THREE Nay on that Bailout. The Repub vote was 45 Yea, ONE HUNDRED FORTY NINE Nay. Now I knew I'd keep my promise to never vote Dem again. THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT US. WE ARE NOT THEIR CONSTITUENTS. HELL, I'm not even sure they give a sh*t about the United States of America. Seriously, they will sell themselves (and us too) down the river to the highest bidder, and not give it a second thought. The above poster is correct when he said: They do not care about you and they WILL TRY to convince you that what they are doing is FOR YOUR BENEFIT. (And it works!) Hence you got people like that dumbsh*t Dem a$$- licker, Rachel Maddow on MSNBC doing interview after interview of these Congressional thieves and saying stuff like "Well, we don't like it very much but we KNOW we HAVE to bail the banks, we're not dummies!". She actually SAID that!) The whole thing was sickening. Trust me, the Dems don't care. I learned that the hard way watching those asses bail every thief on the planet, no matter how many calls they got PLEADING with them not to do so. We REALLY NEEDED them to save that money for US, the People. The money is GONE now. It's gone. I guess my only consolation is that more Dem voters are finally beginning to get a clue, painful as it is, and seeing them for who they really are. |
entropy User ID: 678498 United States 07/02/2009 01:03 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Jane Hamsher details the extremely aggressive tactics the White House and House leadership used to coerce liberal environmentalist members to vote for the cap-and-trade bill despite their belief that it helped polluters more than it did anything else (and remember their ability to do that the next time they claim that a bill they ostensibly support simply couldn't pass because it lacked the necessary votes). Jane quotes from a Politico article reporting on White House anger towards environmentalist Democratic Rep. Lloyd Doggett, due to an impassioned floor speech he gave arguing that the bill was so industry-friendly that it would do more harm than good. That article contains this quote: Quoting: WomanInBlackThe White House is smoking mad at Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas), who says he's voting against the climate bill — despite the lobbying of the entire First Family in the Oval Office last night. If the bill goes down, Obama won't forget Doggett's role, Democrats say. It's "stunning that he would ignore the wishes not just of his president, but of his constituents and the country,” said an administration official. This has become an emerging theme among both the White House and House leadership: that progressive members of Congress have an obligation to carry out "the wishes of the President" even when they disagree (now, apparently, it's "stunning" when they defy his dictates). That was the same subservient mentality that led House Democrats who admitted they opposed the war supplemental spending and/or the foreign bank bailout to nonetheless vote for the bill: because they President favored it. The duty of Congress is not to obey the wishes of the President. Note, too, that the sort of bullying tactics that were used for the war supplemental bill and now for the cap-and-trade bill are only directed towards the House progressives who want legislation to be less beholden to corporate donors; those tactics are never invoked against Blue Dogs who play a vital role in impeding progressive legislation and thus supply the perfect excuse for Democratic leaders as to why such legislation does not pass. Let's see if these tactics are used against Blue Dogs who impede a public option for health care, the repeal of DOMA and Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and various issues relating to the closing of Guantanamo. Will we hear condemnations from Rahm Emanuel's underlings about how stunning and outrageous it is that conservative Democrats are "ignoring the wishes of the President?"
