In fact, the dispute over who actually discovered it, Brown or Ortiz, was because after Mike Brown found it in 2004, he studied it and confirmed his measurements and then kind of pre-announced that he would be announcing something. The next day, Ortiz announced that he'd discovered the object himself. The rules of science say that the guy who announces first, is the discoverer. But in this case, it turned out that computers at Ortiz's IP address had accessed Mike Brown's network, where he had all the data and coordinates for his discovery stored, almost immediately after Brown pre-announced.
