\"We think the dollar should be strong, and the best way we think to get a strong dollar is to have a strong economy,\" Bernanke said.

So that\'s why they are spending so much money and running up deficits...they want a \'strong\' dollar...

Could have fooled me.

Got it.

There's an old saying in my business -
"Nobody Knows Nothin".

At this junction in my life, I'm far more inclined to respect the views of the Salt of the Earth/house painter types, over the Harvard Econ Doctorate types.
Yes it's safe, it's very safe, it's so safe you wouldn't believe it....
... No, it's not safe, it's very dangerous. Be Careful.

Re: Bernanke: This may be worse than Great Depression
But that is the point, in the 1920's most people were used to a very low standard of living (especially so, when compared by today's standard), they knew how to look after themselves (and each other) because they knew their neighbours. Times were very hard, but so were the people were also hard.

This time, Amerika is full of softies, used to everything landing in their laps. Suburbs now spraw on for miles and miles. The old farming infrastructure is now (big) agribusiness, the small hard working farmers are long gone. EVERYTHING is on a knife edge compared with 80 years ago. If law and order breaks down, then Amarika is a goner. This is the reason for all the FEMA camps - that, until recently, the existence of which, was denied!

Yep.. ask anyone you know too kill & dress a chicken and watch the comedy act that follows. Are there exceptions? Sure there are.... 32 of them.

The thing is... it won't get that bad. If the Super Markets shut down for 24 hours in this land or any other "domesticated" land, all good people will be standing in line to sell or ship their children to the camps if thats what it takes to feed.

A.) Lop chicken head off.

B.) Watch chicken do headless dance

C.) Hand headless chciken feet first onto clothes line to bleed out.

D.) Dip chicken into scalding hot water.

E.) Pull off feather and pin feathers

F.) Cut off feet and wings

G.) Gut (save gizzard, heart and liver for giblet gravy).

E.) Wash and check for more pin feathers.

F.) Fry chicken up and dance on porch after Supper.

Re: Bernanke: This may be worse than Great Depression
I was watching the ABC nightly news with Traitor Gibson and all the other staff (too bad) and during the economy series they said in the end and I quote:

"we are going to have a jobless recovery"

green shoots, economy recovering, markets doing well...but uh..oh I am sorry, no one will be getting their jobs back

all smoke and mirrors folks...yup worse than the great depression

You know what this means, it means that the "recovery" -- if any occurs -- will be just a paper and liquidity one like the ones were earlier in this decade. We are not "recovering" in the sense that the economy has corrected some of its structural flaws and the markets have shifted. This is just a temporary reinflation of the unhealthy liquidity bubble.

IMO if we see any recovery at all, it will be just a short-term stall in the bubble burst that our leaders are trying to stave off, as if they can have an economy that never suffers market corrections.

Re: Bernanke: This may be worse than Great Depression
The stupid fed chair didn't see this coming three years ago, but those of us listening to/reading Puplava, Mogambo Guru, Prechter, Rodgers, Schiff, et al -- we did see it coming. 800 billion dollar trade deficits each year, the government borrowing 2-3 hundred billion from foreigners, for an annul 1 trillion deficit to the rest of the world.

Americans using their houses as piggy banks, constantly remortgaging as Sir Alan Greenspan artificially lowered interest rates to keep the good time rolling. (You want to blame someone, blame Greenspan -- also for the social security crisis, but that's another story) Property values overinflated, Americans consuming beyond their means.

I saw it coming as did many others. I have watched carefully as it has unfolded. The promises of green shoots are nothing but lies. Read Denninger every day and you will stay up with the changing picture. Changing from bad to worse.

Start raising a garden. Start paying down debt. Start reading Survivalblog. Read Ferfal. Read the threads on GLP. You'll start to get the picture.

My advice is to get ready for the worst times you have ever seen, politically and socially. You are living through historic(ally bad) times.

Re: Bernanke: This may be worse than Great Depression
To the person who said it hasn't started yet. How can you say that? Perhaps the reality has not hit you personally but it has hit millions of others. Hundreds of thousands of people are homeless, unemployment benefits are dwindling. Cities, counties and states are broke. We are selling out our infrastructure for some of the aforementioned to even stay afloat. Unemployment is officially at 11 percent in California and much higher in the states comprising the 'rust belt'. The real unemployment rate, counting all the offical categories in the US but not relying on the few categories they do publicly announce, is over 20% and n ot expected to abate into next year as according to Bernanke so we can expect that not to be true either. Credit lines are drying up and reduced or completely eliminated on people who have credit scores in the 800s, the best of the best as risk goes. Little in the way of loans for commercial interests. The loans due on shopping centers which stand empty and uncompleted are usually for 8 years or so and due for refis which are not there. You have yet to see the next wave of 2010/2011 resets on residential real estate and now it is required that you have scores of 740 or better for most loans for that. By changing the upper limits on credit cards, reducing them and leaving people with their present balances of ratios affected that further reduces an otherwise good credit risk. I could go on and on, this is going to get way worse and I did not even mention all the trillions of lost 401k and other investments people had for their retirement, utterly gone.

Re: Bernanke: This may be worse than Great Depression
On the end of the quotient relating this to the other depression; then you did not have to have a license to do handywork, hair dressing, tailoring or anyother thing one might do to survive. You did not need to be bonded or insured. You could trade eggs, bread, services for medical treatment. You could move your entire family into your h omestead and you did not have to park in a garage your vehicles, wagon or whatever with the door down or risk headlong battles with Homeowners Associations as they did not exist. You did not have the fees for these either. You could work out of your barn, your garage whatever with no political interference, small or large. You could as most of America at that time grow your own food, hang your wash out to dry as that was the norm, clotheslines in all yards, tenaments in cities too. You did not worry about exchanging servies or goods or labor for the risk of being sued, it did not happen. You did not have to have insurance for your h ome in order to have a loan nor your vehicles. There was a labor market in the USA then to carry on the manufacturing and the growing and harvesting supplied by our very own citizens. The list is endless why our lifestyle today will make it nearly impossible for people to survive and emerge from this as they have become totally dependant upon the USA to give them what they need and to permit them to do what is necessary, this licesing or granting of permission to exist and triving is not part of the quotient.

How do you know they won't just find another way to keep the bubble growing indefinitely or just remark the assets with value they don't actually have and say, "It's okay now. We were wrong about them being worthless"?

We all thought it was going to crash early this year or late last year and were proven wrong.

Who's to say they won't find one way after another to just keep it from crashing?

I still believe it was pretty harsh. No unemployment insurance food stamps or SS. The folks who fled the dust bowl were destitute and people generally were dirt poor compared to today's standards even before the depression struck.

Then it took several years to transform people from merely being unemployed to being in abject poverty. Often thru attrition and slowly losing everything including their land to the tax man.

BERNANKE IS SPEAKING WITH THE PUBLIC TO CONTINUE THE INSIGHTMENT OF "FEAR" TO THE PEOPLE. THE MORE HE MAKES HIMSELF PUBLIC WITH "FEAR" THE MORE PEOPLE WILL BE DEMORALIZED (BEATEN) AND NOT WANT TO FIGHT FOR ANYTHING.

WAKE UP PEOPLE WE ARE UNDER CONSTANT BRAINWASHING.

The top and the rest of the world will go on enjoying the recovery.
