What's a good shotgun? | |
John Galt User ID: 707612 United States 08/06/2009 12:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | its a shotgun you dont want any mods. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 714754Knoxberg recoil-reduction stock. Heat shield. Shooting slugs packs a punch. I shot 100 rounds of 2 3/4 birdshot, 15 rounds of slugs. The slugs pack a harder punch and raise the barrel more after firing. Your shoulder will thank you too. :P Plus the barrel gets hot when shooting multiple rounds. Having said that, get a Mossberg 500 or 590. Small, easier to hide in the home, holds 5 shells, (6 with one in chamber). Easy to grab cold, unlock and load blindfolded in under a minute. (Practice makes perfect.) |

If you are going to use a gun, it is best to fire it and get to know it every way you can. Accuracy is for crap; no choke so it shoots like a blunderbuss, but you can get 3-4 out of 5 accuracy once you know the gun. I'd be interested to see how the breach barrel fires. |

Relatively cheap, too.. very reliable. Have taken several shotty classes to get familiar with it and its never let me down. Oh.. well.. I might have the "assault-shotgun" version, though.. its painted black. /cough... -- "Some people are born mediocre, some people achieve mediocrity, and some people have mediocrity thrust upon them." ~Joseph Heller JeepThang O||||O |

Handgun Quoting: Anonymous Coward 743751Shoots 410 or 45 long colt. shoot them in the face with #6 to blind them and then follow that with either buckshots or a couple of 45 lc hollow points. Much less bulky than a shot gun. Wide dispersion at close range too. Got one right by the bed. #6 in the face would ruin your day (if it didn't kill you). 45 lc is a proven manstopper. The new Judge does seem interesting. For me, it's a Taurus 605: 5-shot .357, 2" barrel, titanium. Only good for close range, but I don't have a big house. Hammer first drops on a .38 shotshell. That should give an intruder pause to reconsider their actions. By then, I am fully awake and if they persist, a 158 grain JHP will hit the mark, bringing the encounter to a close. I would like to add Crimson Trace laser grips, just don't have the $300 or so. |

Quoting: PACNWguyYou can be out of cartridges and it still does the trick. Also saves having to replace the door or patch a hole in the wall to fix warning shots. Inside my home/castle, there is no such thing as a warning shot. |

Quoting: Red Auroras 743404Get something smaller, [link to en.wikipedia.org] Shit will put the victim down without much of a mess. Don't expect them to be breathing if shot in the chest, headshots are instant kill, never heard of anyone surviving a .45 to the dome. Its small enough to allow you to be able to maneuver quickly. [link to www.rrarms.com] I beg to differ! Any knowledgeable shooter will tell you a shotgun is the #1 choice in home defense. Even #7 or #8 shot will do the job. The #1 problem with using bullets inside the home is over-penetration through interior (and possibly exterior) walls. Thank you for setting the poster straight....you beat me to it. |

The folding stock seems good for compactabilty. Quoting: PharmacistConventional wood stock. Much more durable, and aids in controllability. Better for reloading too - clamp it against your side with your strong side elbow, while keeping the barrel pointed in the direction of the threat. "Uhhhhhh......" Barack Obama |
