Unemployment Report Distortions

The release of the July unemployment report was filled with a wide array of distortions and inexplicable results (especially from the Birth-Death model) which have undoubtedly resulted in a better-than-warranted reported gain. In this post we'll explore these oddities in some detail.

Re: Unemployment Report Distortions
I read many stock blogs and the consenus yesterday was the the report would finally "be honest" and show real numbers.

Estimates ranged up to 750,000.

Today there is general incredulity, even among this hardened crowd.

There will be pressure put on this number.

Of course, it will be revised upward next month, as a footnote, when nobody cares.

Re: Unemployment Report Distortions
I don't believe these numbers either. I am unemployed, can not find a job and not counted in these numbers. I am not collecting gov't assistance so they don't know to count me.

I believe these numbers will be revised even if it is behind closed doors and we, the public never know.

I find it sad that this administration I believe less than any other. I feel for them it is all about appearances. Hopefully I am wrong and we are pulling out of this. However my husband's job has cut hours by 50 % in order to avoid laying anyone off. After taxes and deductions for insurance etc, his net pay for 2 weeks was 700. My house payment is more than that. I hope we can survive the recovery they say we are in.
