I am thinking of buying 100 acres in Southern Mexico to help American friends escape Socialism, Nazism, and the coming Crash
I am thinking of getting up to 100 acres in Southern Mexico to help some American friends scape their democratic, economic and political woes.

How much land would I lend them if per family so they are able to grow a garden, and what should I ask in return, if any?

What is fair?

Give them whatever it takes to convince them to leave the United States, please. We have little use for those that would leave for borrowed land.

Ha!

Thanks for your opinions.

Should I had said fuck, or something improper, there would be lots of replies. Ask a sensible question and you´re mute.

Thanks anyways. It seems kindness is unknown here.

You just go wtf

I couldn´t legally sell land to a foreigner. Our constitution forbids it, and I am a patriot. Thanks for answering.

Sounds like a nice offer to make to friends. Sad thing is, unless they are already:
1. reasonably familiar with that area of Mexico and the customs there
2. homesteading, gardening or have previous experience
it would probably be a very difficult move for them to make.

Culture shock can be hard on a family. Add the hardship of having to build a sustainable lifestyle from nothing but raw land to this and you will probably see them leave fairly quickly.
Just opinion... it would really all depend on the families and the area they move from and to.

There is nothing wrong in wishing to help others in need.

Just realize that by them becoming tenants on your property, you change the relationship from just being friends.

Should you choose to proceed, you should give it careful consideration, draw up a contract between yourselves that is realist and helpful to both parties.

Give it a lot of thought, would they be creating a farm that is sufficient to provide most of their basic needs? Would they be responsible for the structures required? Is there forest to clear? It takes a lot of work to start from scratch and build a farm that will provide for a family.

It is commendable that you want to help your friends.

what state in mexico...

mexico ain`t the safest place in the world right now....

you need to do more research....

there are good states and bad states....

avoid the bad states....
Beyond one's own mind there is no dazzling light to come shining in from outside to wake one up. If one recognizes one's own intrinsic State as pure from the beginning and only temporarily obscured by impurities, and if one maintains the presence of this recognition without becoming distracted, then all the impurities dissolve. This is the essence of the Path-namkhai norbu.

Why is there a legend about the descent of Christ into hell? The Teacher addressed the lower strata of the astral world, saying: Why, by cherishing earthly thoughts, bind oneself eternally to Earth? And many revolted in spirit and rose higher.

ohhh, a commune in the making.

I've grown a large and bountiful garden on 1/4 acre. Search up victory gardens, Americans used to be very resourceful with a can-do attitude, real Americans still are.

Depends on how many friends you have and whether they'll share with each other as a commuity.

I'd not worry about culture shock, what's happening here is the real culture shock.

A family would need about an acre. Also you would have to have a good water source to support the people. And sympathetic local officials that wouldn't extradite Americans back in case they make up some crime in the future where it is illegal to leave the country.

Thanks for considering doing this some people may need it.

half an acre of fruit trees and vegetables is the bare minumum for agriculture for family subsistence. if u have animals, more obviously.

That´s right. The Mayan Riviera might seem paradise, but familiarity is king. But I think they would be free from harm as long as I remain the legal owner of the land, for legal reasons, of course.

I am worried for those nice Americans I know. There are nice people to lend a hand, and those you think they would be a nuisance on day one.

Thanks for your thoughtful answer. hf

That´s exactly what I think I could help with. As I have discussed it with my wife, they would get enough land to get a small farm to feed themselves. What I don´t know is if many would have the means to build a farm, a home and all the amenities needed. The place is beautiful, but it´s also hurricane land. At least every 4 years a big hurricane crosses the peninsula.

What would be fair and a nice way to lend a helping hand? Where to draw the line between friendship and tenantship?

That´s a great answer. Exactly my thoughts.

Water tastes sweet and it is 7 meters below. I doubt pretty much Americans wouldn´t be allowed to leave, if they wanted. They just need to get a permit, and they could stay indefinitely as long as they renew. Many foreigners don´t renew the permit and stay for years without getting in trouble, just like it happens in the US.

Quintana Roo State.

Mexico is safe most of the time. I have lived safely all of my life, in Mexico. You just need to know people and know what not to do. Besides, I am a peaceful person that has nothing to do with organized crime. It´s like the US. There are places I wouldn´t feel comfortable in.

Besides, the area I am thinking of buying in, is very peaceful. Besides, there is a lot of Mayan relics in the area to visit and beautiful beaches and cenotes - underground rivers - to dive in. It´s almost paradise.

You dummy. You should buy land in Brazil with the Bush family and Rev. Moon.

If you were smart you;d hire a Brazilian lawyer to make sure you could get the land with some sort for inconvenient easement that you could then sell back to the Bushes for a sweet profit; they respect that sort of thing.

How much taxes on the land do you have us dollars?

Is there a way to lease it for years?

Also isn't funny how the USA will sell the land to Mexicans but not the other way around? No racism but seems odd is all.

My family and I made the move to Southern Brasil almost a full year ago. We sold our homes and everything we possible could and bought a very nice 100 acre farm complete with 4 bedroom home, wells, tank, huge garden, working eucaliptus farm, orchard with over 10 types of fruit trees, etc.

We LOVE IT!!!! The town is nice size and close to an airport. I've been trying to convice the rest of the inlaws to make the move, but they're pretty deep in Americana.

I've always been a Universalist from childhood; not brought up that way, its just who I am. I LOVE the US though. I'm watching a tragedy unfold from Brasil. You have NO idea what you are all losing. NO IDEA. It's so sad.

What a generous offer and if I could, I would take it immediately. What you are suggesting is exactly the kind of life that I've been craving. The simple yet fulfilling life which connects us with nature, and that includes to re-connect with our humanity.

La Rivera Maya is absolutely beautiful. My brother lives in Canucn. A "chilango" learning to adapt to hurricanes. His fist one was Vilma and needless to say, he was terrified, and as with al crisis, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

I am mexican married to an american hard working man and I know many americans who are like him. Good people, hard working, caring.

I feel very sad to see what is happening to USA. I see my husband in disbelief/pain because most americans really love their country and it is just too painful for them to see what is going on. My husband still holds a little hope that this crisis is just a 'cycle'. Since I come from a third world country, I am less optimistic. I see the steps being followed one, by one and I am very worried about the social reaction. I am not so worried about the financial crisis, because I perceive americans as hard working people who are not afraid of starting from zero, but I am worried about the social unrest, because I see the country too divided, separated and fed with fear and anger.

You said you are mexican and my hats off. I wish much more mexicans were like you. Thanks.

Hahaha. We share the same idea.

I am glad you like it and that it´s working out for you.

I already have my safe-place outside Mexicali, México which is in a small town about 15 miles from the US-Mexico border, but I am now thinking of friends and family at large. I know many will not move, but many will get desperate when TSHTF.

The closest town is 20 minutes away and it´s barely 30k people. I intend to grow lots of tropical fruit trees for our own consumption, and eucalyptus trees of about 6 kinds, since they grow fast and are great for timber, some of them and each kind has so many uses. There is one you crash a few leaves and you have a great mosquito repellent. Another one is great against Cancer...

I have to start from scratch, and make it to accomodate people as they settle in the land. The land is great to grow cattle.

I don´t intend to charge per acre, or charge for permits. But somehow I would think I would probably need money to be able to provide for what ¨the community¨ needs, or as needs arise, so that´s what I am thinking about. Since there is a huge crash coming, I don´t know what we´ll be up against, and how money will be earned to sustain the wave.

I am thinking of creating a cooperative, where everybody works to get the needs of all of us. The problem is what to do if someone does not do its chores, or becomes a nuisance. It would be difficult to support him, or to let him go to a social void outside the community.
