Fab Four Fans Flock to Abbey Road for 40th Anniversary
London's Abbey Road is especially busy these days, as Beatles fans have crowded onto the famous street for the 40th anniversary of the legendary photo depicting the Fab Four crossing it.

Traffic came to standstill on Saturday morning in the upscale north London neighbourhood of St. John's Wood as fans and media converged on the crosswalk.

The iconic shot was taken Aug. 8, 1969, just outside the studio where the Beatles recorded most of their work. The iconic album cover was re-produced on a British stamp in 2006.

Scottish photographer Iain Macmillan, standing on a ladder, took the photo for the cover of what would become the group's final album. Macmillan shot only six frames in 10 minutes as John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and George Harrison walked back and forth across the street crossing.

Beatles aficionados have drawn various conclusions from the fact that McCartney is the only one in bare feet and out of step with his bandmates.

The shot has also spurred many fans to re-create their own versions of the cover, with the neighbourhood being visited by hundreds of people every day.

A webcam mounted on the studio's roof allows anyone around the world to take a peek at the locale.

Abbey Road studios itself is also famous many artists, including Fats Waller, Oasis and U2, have recorded albums there.
