AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND TO JOIN MILITARY FORCES

CANBERRA, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Australia and New Zealand are investigating the formation of a joint military force to conduct joint regional security operations, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd revealed here Thursday.

Rudd revealed the plan after meeting his counterpart of New Zealand John Key at Canberra earlier Thursday saying there would be defence and security scenarios in the future where it would make sense for Australian and New Zealand forces to deploy quickly and jointly, as reported by Australian Associated Press.

He said given the bonds that already exist between armed forces of the two nations, the common training, the compatibility of so much of their equipment, this is a useful thing to do together.

However Key said it was too early to go into detail about the size of the force or in what conditions it might deploy.

He said the planned joint military force is not meant to be something that will replace the military capability of either Australia or New Zealand but is a tangible attempt to link the two forces together and to provide a sense of that comradeship which has been there in the past.

"It is a germ of an idea but it is something that the defence forces are interested in," Key said.

There are no further details available at the moment about the proposed scheme which is said to be discussed in talks between defence chiefs.

Considering 25% of kiwis live in Australia, this is a given. Also it will give the flightless kiwis a chance to try out some training with Australias air force.

Talks were also held about creating one ecnomy between the 2 nations, but New Zealand PM John Key said at this moment it was 'unlikely' and discussions will be held in the future.

It makes you think.
Flights between the 2 nations are domestic.
New Zealand has major sporting teams in every Australian competition.
Over 1 million kiwis live in Australia.
Joint military and economies?

Australia and New Zealand will soon become One nation. Other islander nations wont be to far behind id suspect either, but as i said, i think this is natural progression as a large portion of every islander nation lives in Australia. I think it is at least 25% for each island like new zealand, samoa. tonga, fiji, etc.. etc..

As we get closer towards 2012 and we realize our minds are actually one, i think you will see one nation simply called pacifica or oceania. Thank fuck the bankers and nazis are going broke. Dont pay for there debt.

Interesting development, though it's not much of a surprise.

Re: AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND TO JOIN MILITARY FORCES
I seem to recall a term called ANZAC. been going on for a while. WW11 I believe. So this is looking at a joint force commanded by one operative. Who? Aus or NZ commander in chief?
The true issue is when and the reasoning. A foreign threat or a threat from within?
