Iran likely to receive Russian air defense system
Iran likely to receive Russian air defense system

Wednesday, August 26, 2009
TEL AVIV — Israel's military expects Iran to receive an advanced long-range air defense system by next year.

Military sources said the intelligence community has concluded that despite its denials Russia or its former Soviet allies would supply Iran with the S-300 air defense system.
The sources said Iran has already signed agreements for surplus S-300 systems with at least one former Soviet republic.

"The military is preparing in both word and deed for the arrival of the S-300," a military source said. "The key now is to learn how to deal with this."

The sources said Israel's F-16 multi-role fighter has already been equipped with systems that could detect and alert pilots of any S-300 launch. They did not say how many of the nearly 250 aircraft in the F-16 fleet contain these systems.
The Israel Air Force has acquired classified data on the S-300 for use in pilot training, the sources said. They said combat pilots were employing simulators in mock operations against the S-300.

The simulation was designed by the air force's software department, Ofeq. The scenario was meant to replicate S-300 radar lock-on of an Israeli F-16 multi-role fighter. The pilot was said to receive an alert of the radar lock-on, giving him seconds to maneuver out of danger.

"We can't simulate a real-life situation of a missile that locks on to an airplane," an officer identified only as Maj. Lee, said. "But the rest we could replicate."

The sources said Syria was also expected to acquire the S-300. They said Iran would probably operate any S-300 batteries in Syria.

The S-300 data integrated into the Israeli simulator included the capabilities of the radar, command and control and interceptor. They said the simulator was designed to accommodate any enhancement of the S-300.

"The [S-300] missile's manuevering, the ground terrain — all of these things are elements configured into the algorithms, and we simulate this for the pilot," Lee, who helped design the simulation program, said.

Not necessarily Israel has more military power than you can imagine.

But yes we are witnessing the nations that surround her preparing for a battle.

That may be true regarding conventional aircraft, however Iran would still be vulnerable to stealth aircraft, cruise missiles, surface-to-surface missiles, UAVs, and even covert ops.

We cannot be ignorant there may be losses on both sides but God Almighty will destroy all nations that come against His land and the Jewish people.

Psalm 2 (King James Version)

Psalm 2

1Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,

3Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision.

5Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

10Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Benjamin Netanyahu: Israel wants 'crippling sanctions' against Iran
The Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for 'crippling sanctions' against Iran to stop its nuclear programme.

By Our Foreign Staff and Agencies in Berlin
Published: 3:03PM BST 27 Aug 2009

After talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel during a visit to Germany, he said: "There is not much time.
"I think the most important thing that can be put in place is what the US secretary of state [Hillary Clinton] called crippling sanctions. It is possible to put real pressure, real economic pressure, on this regime if the major powers of the world unite."

Even if the United Nations Security Council fails to approve tougher sanctions against Tehran over its sensitive nuclear work due to opposition from Russia or China, a "coalition of the willing" could enact its own measures, he added.
Mrs Merkel said that if Iran failed to meet international obligations by next month, then "more serious steps" including energy sanctions would have to be considered.
Widely considered to be the Middle East's sole if undeclared nuclear armed power, Israel suspects Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear programme - something Tehran denies.
Israel considers the Islamic republic to be its main foe following repeated statements by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the Jewish state is doomed to be "wiped off the map".

That doesn't mean God is taking an active part in our petty squabbles. Israel lost battles more than once so in those cases its religious interpretation (always in hindsight) switched from "God is always with us" to "ooops, God punished us". That kind of thinking was pervasive in that age, with the Greeks also thinking their Gods took active part in their petty squabbles.

If you really think the Almighty God that created the massive Universe and imparted its grand rules is taking part in petty squabbles over a few miles of dirt then what can I say.... I strongly disagree.

BTW, what nations did God destroy?

There's nothing strange about what is posted here maybe to you since you do not understand what is soon coming.
I do believe Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is returning with His eternal Kingdom. And Israel will prevail by the right hand of God.

So we're now nitpicking about how much of the city is supposed to be destroyed? Point is Damascus was sacked so hard that it had to be rebuilt.

Hiroshima was not totally destroyed either. Only 70% of Hiroshima was destroyed. According to your view then Hiroshima has never been totally destroyed.

BTW, how come the Bible says nothing about Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Events of such magnitude surely must have been "seen" by prophets. *sound of crickets*

Winnipeg Free Press - PRINT EDITION
New alliance emerging in the Middle East
By: Samuel Segev
25/08/2009 1:00 AM |

TEL AVIV -- Syrian President Bashar Assad's visit to Tehran last week has revealed a new regional element that has been largely ignored by Western observers. Assad's visit was officially described as a goodwill trip to congratulate Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his re-election as Iran's president. But what came out following Assad's meeting with Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was an idea for an unofficial quadripartite alliance between Syria and Iran, with Turkey and Iraq joining.

Israeli sources anticipated such a proposal. They said that Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was not ignorant to this idea. While officially struggling to join the European Union, Turkey has begun to accept the possibility that its European dreams are unlikely to materialize. At the same time, Turkey's hopes for a mediating role in peace talks between Israel and Syria, are also beginning to fade. Israel now insists on direct negotiations with Damascus.
Assad's visit to Tehran was a kind of a slap in the face to President Barack Obama. Assad is the only Arab (or foreign) head of state to congratulate Ahmadinejad in person in Tehran.

In anticipation of Obama's major foreign policy speech at the UN General Assembly in New York in mid-September, Assad decided to keep all his foreign policy options open. Hence, and contrary to his "neutral" stance in the Lebanese parliamentary elections in early June, Assad is now very much, and discreetly, involved in the coalition-making efforts in Beirut. Syria is supporting its traditional allies -- Hezbollah and General Michel Aoun's party -- with the aim of giving them a practical veto-power over all future government decisions.

Such a position takes Lebanon back to the status-quo-ante situation and openly contradicts Obama's ideas for solving the Lebanese crisis. These Syrian moves are interpreted in Israel as a preparation for Obama's future UN policy speech, which would imply an effort to reduce Iran's influence in the region.

Thus, the talks about a quadripartite alliance between Syria, Iran, Turkey and Iraq, are aimed to pre-empt such an outcome. The four countries already co-operate in various fields, especially since the U.S. invasion of Iraq. All four have common interests in suppressing Kurdish national aspirations. All four also suspect that an American withdrawal from Iraq would exclude withdrawal from Iraqi Kurdistan.

This is a red flag for Iran that could find itself squeezed between the American troops in Kurdistan and Afghanistan.
This is also a red flag for Turkey and Iraq, which fear that under the umbrella of the American troops, the Iraqi Kurds would incorporate the oil-rich Kirkouk into their province.

Finally, a quadripartite alliance would also be a red flag for Saudi Arabia and Egypt, whose ability to help solve the Lebanese and Palestinian crises would be considerably weakened.
Indeed, and despite intense Egyptian efforts, the reconciliation talks in Cairo between the pro-Syrian and pro-Iranian Hamas and the pro-western Fatah, have been again postponed until after the month of Ramadan, which began Saturday.

Obama, however, appears determined to announce his Middle East peace plan next month in New York in the presence of both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the chairman of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas.

Netanyahu left Monday for official visits to Germany and Great Britain. While in London, Netanyahu is expected to meet with the U.S. envoy, George Mitchell, and will hear from him about Obama's peace ideas, as conveyed last week to Egypt's President Mubarak.
Realizing the wider regional implications, Israel appears ready to co-operate with Obama's vision for Middle East peace.
Sam Segev is the Free Press Middle East correspondent, based in Tel Aviv.

The first battle Gog-Magog
Ezekiel 38:1-16 (New King James Version)

Ezekiel 38

Gog and Allies Attack Israel

1 Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh,[a] Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal.

4 I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords.

5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya[c] are with them, all of them with shield and helmet;

6 Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you.

7 “Prepare yourself and be ready, you and all your companies that are gathered about you; and be a guard for them.

8 After many days you will be visited. In the latter years you will come into the land of those brought back from the sword and gathered from many people on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate; they were brought out of the nations, and now all of them dwell safely.

9 You will ascend, coming like a storm, covering the land like a cloud, you and all your troops and many peoples with you.”

10 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your mind, and you will make an evil plan:

11 You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’—

12 to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land.

13 Sheba, Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions will say to you, ‘Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to take booty, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?’”’

14 “Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “On that day when My people Israel dwell safely, will you not know it?

15 Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army.

16 You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.”

Re: Iran likely to receive Russian air defense system
US may put missile shield in Israel, Turkey instead of E. Europe - Polish report
DEBKAfile Special Report
August 29, 2009, 5:53 AM (GMT+02:00)

According to the Warsaw newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, Washington plans to scrap its plans to deploy anti-missile bases in Poland and the Czech Republic for defense against attacks from Iran. In deference to adamant opposition from Moscow, the Obama administration is looking at alternatives including Israel and Turkey. No immediate comment was available from US, Polish of Czech officials on this disclosure, but the Polish paper cited unnamed US officials on Aug. 27 as affirming that Washington was now considering deploying anti-missile interceptors on naval vessels and at bases in Israel and Turkey, as well as potentially in the Balkans.
According to a Pentagon spokesman the missile shield plans were still being reviewed. No final decisions have been made regarding missile defense in Europe, he said. DEBKAfile's Washington sources do not view this statement as an out-and-out denial of the Polish news report.
A pro-missile lobbyist Riki Ellison added: Signals from the Pentagon were "absolutely clear," with the US scouting for alternative sites. A source in the US Congress confirmed that Washington had been "testing the water" among lawmakers for weeks after scrapping the eastern European part of the plan. During his Moscow visit on July 6-7, US president Barack Obama found Russian leaders still flatly opposed to the deployment of US missiles "on its doorstep" and promised to review the project.
DEBKAfile's military analysts report that basing parts of the missile shield in Israel would have far-reaching strategic effects:
1. Moscow would owe the Obama administration a quid pro quo for removing the planned missile interceptor and radar station from its borders and ought to be more amenable to lining up behind America for tough sanctions against Iran, including the sale of gasoline and refined petroleum products.
2. The longstanding close cooperation between the US Missile Defense Agency and the Israel Air Force's space and missile wings would be upgraded and acknowledged publicly.
3. Since the Arrow anti-missile system developed jointly by the US and Israel is already an integral part of American missile defenses in Europe and the Middle East, Jerusalem is unlikely to object to a US request in this regard.
4. Anyway, for almost a year now, a key element of the US missile defense array has been deployed on Israeli soil, namely the advanced US FBX-T radar system for which an off-limits compound accessible only to US personnel has been allotted at Israel's Negev Air Force base at Nevatim.
Using the infrastructure already present in Israel would substantially cut down the financial and manpower costs of building a missile shield against Iran.
5. Israel would be integrated in the American missile umbrella guarding the Middle East and Persian Gulf nations against Iranian missile attack.
6. Since all US diplomatic overtures for thawing relations with the Assad regime in Damascus have come to naught, an American interceptor base in Israel would also be a shield against Syrian missiles and the missile batteries Moscow is planning to install for defending the Russian naval bases under construction in the Syrian ports of Latakia and Tartous.
7. The new US bases in Israel will not fundamentally change the nature of Israel-Russia relations. Moscow has always regarded the Jewish state anyway as a part of America's military and intelligence machinery in the Middle East.

Could the coming Israel-Hezbollah conflict catalyze Psalm 83?
By Bill Salus
©2009

Many eschatologists, those who study end time events, are warning that three world changing Israeli war prophecies are about to occur. Isaiah 17:1, Psalm 83, and Ezekiel 38-39, usually listed in that order, describe prophetic events that could dramatically shift the balance of Mideast wealth and power into Israel’s favor.

Current unprecedented security threats facing Israel’s national existence not only support the eschatologist's beliefs, but have also forced many world leaders to push peace in the Middle East to the top of their agenda. They want Iran to refrain from developing a nuclear weapon, Israel to freeze settlement expansion in Jerusalem, Gaza, and the West Bank, and the Arab League to normalize relations with Israel and finally recognize its right to exist.

The international community continues to prescribe “Land for Peace” as the way to resolve the age old Arab-Israeli conflict; however the Bible predicts peace will come through military means rather than politically brokered real estate efforts.

Presuming the eschatologists are right, how soon might the world see the final fulfillment of these Middle East centered bible prophecies? Could it be that the present military preparations being made for another war between Israel and the Hezbollah could escalate and subsequently become the catalyst for the fulfillment of Isaiah 17:1 and ultimately Psalm 83?

Hezbollah, the terrorist organization turned political party, appears to be ramping up for a final war with Israel. According to Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, the Hezbollah are again heavily armed and extremely dangerous. On August 4, 2009 he told Army Radio that in violation of U.N. Resolution 1701, they have resupplied their arsenal with “40,000 rockets”. Additionally military analysts suggest that they have been stocking up on Russian-made SA-8 radar guided anti-aircraft missiles and SA-18 shoulder-fired missiles for use against Israeli helicopters.

In the summer of 2006 the Hezbollah lobbed over 4000 rockets into Israel. Averaging 118 rockets daily, Hassan Nasrallah and his Hezbollah bad boys kept residents in Haifa and other Northern Israeli communities hunkered down in bomb shelters for the duration of the 34 day conflict.

Given their current rocket supply Hezbollah could conduct a military campaign packing ten times the previous punch. Furthermore Israeli leaders are concerned that Hezbollah has added the Soviet designed “Frog 7” to their abundantly dangerous arsenal. This rocket could deliver a deadly dose of chemicals deep into downtown Tel Aviv.

Israel takes the Hezbollah threat seriously…

On June 4, 2009, while President Obama was quoting Islamic passages in Cairo, Egypt out of what he referred to as “the holy Koran”, Israel was concluding the largest civilian defense drill in its nation’s history called Turning Point 3. They were preparing their citizenry from top to bottom for a multi-front war between Iran, Syria, Hezbollah, and the Hamas. Then on June 9, 2009 Israeli Defense Minister Barak commanded his military commanders to likewise prepare for such a multi-front war.

Hezbollah proves TERRORISM WORKS…

The significance of Hezbollah’s stale mate with Israel in the summer of 2006 is that it emboldened the Arab States once again to unite against Israel. These predominately Muslim populations sharing a common hatred and border with Israel had resigned themselves, after continued defeats in 1948, 1967, and 1973 by the Israeli Defense Forces, to the fact that they were unable to win a conventional war against Israel. As such they formulated an alternative means through which to destroy the fledgling Jewish State.

They collectively and cleverly opted to propagandize the plight of the Palestinian Refugees and support any and all organizations willing to conduct terrorist operations against Israel. TERRORISM became their new battle cry and the unconventional method of warfare.

Terrorist organizations, like the Palestinian Liberation Organization, Islamic Jihad, Al-Qaeda, Hamas, and the Hezbollah began to pop up throughout the Middle East. These entities enabled the Arab States to conduct continued dirty dealings against Israel, while maintaining clean national hands. These terrorist populations created an effective buffer between Israel and the Arab States. The greater the act of terror against Israel the greater the reward was to the perpetrator.

Hezbollah has learned from Hamas’s mistakes…

The recent overpowering Operation Cast Lead campaign conducted by the I.D.F. against the Hamas should not overshadow the significance of the Hezbollah accomplishments in the summer of 2006. The Hamas got caught with their masks down and Israel seized the opportunity to inflict severe damage to their political and military infrastructure.

It was a brilliant gamble by the I.D.F. to mobilize expeditiously against the Hamas. They realized that a small window of opportunity existed to move into Gaza and destroy weapons, kill antagonistic leaders, and shut down weapons smuggling tunnels. Timing was everything in this conflict.

The Arab and Persian allies of the Hamas were not prepared to fight alongside them at the time. Iran’s nuclear program was not finalized and the Hezbollah and Syrians decided against engaging with Israel without Iran’s approval and military support. Additionally Egypt and Jordan attempted to hold on to their fragile peace agreements with Israel and were not willing to choose sides at the time. Thus the friends of Hamas were reduced to sideline saber rattling.

Had this war gone on much longer, lines would have likely been drawn in the Middle East sand, and even Egypt and Jordan would have had to choose between friendships with Israel or ostracism from the Arab League .

The difference between Operation Cast Lead and what is potentially coming against Israel through the Hezbollah is that the latter will probably not make a move against Israel until all the necessary Arab and Persian allegiances are already pledged. In fact, some of these alliances are already formed with Iran, Syria, Lebanon, and the Hamas.

In light of the legitimate concerns of the International community that Israel is about to launch a pre-emptive strategic strike upon Iran’s nuclear sites, it is probable that the Hezbollah, considered to be one of Iran’s favorite proxies, are poised to strike at any moment. One can be certain that not if, but when, Hezbollah initiates an act of aggression against Israel that it will not be a hap-hazard Hamas like attempt, but a concerted coalition effort intended to wipe the nation of Israel off of the map.

The prophetic implications of a final Israeli – Hezbollah war…
The prophetic implications of such a final war are staggering! This powerful conflict could easily initiate the end time Bible prophecies described in Isaiah 17:1 and Psalm 83. Isaiah predicts the final destruction of Damascus, Syria and Psalm 83 foretells the coming of a final Arab – Israeli war. Amazingly the Hezbollah appear to be listed as the “inhabitants of Tyre” among the ten Arab populations in Psalm 83:6-8.

These two end time events along with the Russian - Iranian led nuclear equipped invasion of Israel described in Ezekiel 38 & 39 are discussed in greater detail in my book Isralestine, the Ancient Blueprints of the Future Middle East.

According to the Bible, Israel and the Hezbollah appear ready for their final fight! This war could open up Pandora’s Box and lead to the Doom of Damascus and Final Fulfillment of Psalm 83. As such, Christians should be perched on the edge of their pews observing current Mideast events with watchful eyes. They should be preparing themselves for these prophetic dominoes to promptly fall in place!

Psalm 83 (King James Version)

1Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.

2For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

3They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.

4They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

5For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

6The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

7Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

8Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

9Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

10Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.

11Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

12Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

13O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

14As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

15So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.

17Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

18That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.

US may put missile shield in Israel, Turkey instead of E. Europe - Polish report
DEBKAfile Special Report
August 29, 2009, 1:29 PM (GMT+02:00)

 Quoting: WatchmanOntheWall
