HOLDING PRAISES KILSYTH MANUFACTURER’S $1M CHINA WIN

The Minister for Manufacturing & Export, Tim Holding, today congratulated Kilsyth-based Radio Frequency Systems Pty Ltd (RFS) on winning a $1 million contract with the Chinese Government.

Speaking on-site, Mr Holding said the order involved the supply of high frequency directional antennas to China’s Communication Authority and was the first in a series of planned sales over the next few years.

“Although RFS earns over 50 percent of its revenue through export, this is the company’s first sale to China,” Mr Holding said.

“It reflects the company’s strong focus on R&D, innovation and product customisation and will help position Victoria as a leading provider of specialist electronics and communications expertise to the rapidly expanding China market.”

RFS is part of the global Radio Frequency Systems group which provides total package solutions for civil and military wireless infrastructure applications worldwide.

RFS’s Australian operation is responsible for the majority of the multinational’s product manufacturing and provides a base for its R&D and systems integration activities in the Asia Pacific region.

The Kilsyth company employs around 280 staff, with approximately 40 involved in R&D.

RFS supplies the defence, HF, telecommunications and broadcast industries. It manufactured the antennas for Australia’s world-leading Jindalee Operational Radar Network over-the-horizon radar network.

The Member for Kilsyth, Dympna Beard, said RFS’s success in the Chinese market illustrated the benefits of developing a strong export focus.

Also congratulating the company on its $1 million contract with the Chinese Government, Ms Beard said RFS had set a strong example for other world-class Victorian companies to follow.

Martyn Kemel, CEO of RFS Australia, said Victorian Government support had played an important role in helping to facilitate the China export win.

“Mr Holding met senior representatives of the Chinese Communication Authority earlier this year and his expression of Government support for our export initiatives made a very big impression on the Chinese officials,” Mr Kemel said.

Mr Holding said Victoria generated over 40% of Australia’s manufactured electronics products.

“We are working with industry to establish Victoria as a leading global centre for electronics and defence sector excellence,” he said.
