Goodbye, halcyon days... There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened. |

Quoting: ~~**Nightfall**~~Every war that has ever been waged and fought has had it's roots deeply embedded in religion. Umm Atheist Communist Nations have fought wars between themselves. Russia-China, China - Vietnam. What does World War 1 and 2 have anything to do with religion? Were the hell did you go to school? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 758618Explain to me how World Wars One and Two were fought because of religion? Religion is always lurking there somewhere. Religion is the population deluding themselves into believing something that isn't true, and basing their entire lives around it. Maybe *All* wars haven't been fought in the name of religion, therefore I will change my wording to say "Most" wars have religion at their roots. |

So the 2 Largest Bloodiest Wars in Human history were not fought over religion yet you still cling to your statement. Do you have a 2nd Grade education in History? How can two atheist countries fight a war over religion as in the Sino-Vietmanese war? (My guess is you never even new this war happened) How was the American Civil War over religion? How was the Punic Wars over religion? How were the Napoleanic Wars over religion? In fact name 1 war besides the Crusades and "War on Terror" that can be proven to fought over religion? Heck even the Israeli-Arab Wars are more over territory and nationalism then anything religious. |

Maybe *All* wars haven't been fought in the name of religion, therefore I will change my wording to say "Most" wars have religion at their roots. I understand your point, but... Wars are fought for a variety of reasons: population pressures, resources, religion, ego, what have you. Sure, religion is typically embedded deeply in most countries that go to war, but that is part of the cultural identity. It isn't really fair to say that it was the root of the war. Now, if you want to talk about the potential damage that can come from the blending of religion and power, then your thread can get back on track: tons of examples from Muslim and Christian history to enjoy! |

Differences in religion can further inflame a war being fought for other reasons. Historically, temples have been destroyed to weaken the morale of the opponent, even when the war itself is not being waged over religious ideals. [link to en.wikipedia.org] |
