The most extreme, severe, most pressing thing facing humans is... | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 762060 United States 09/03/2009 07:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You really should read more about history before you declare all wars are due to religion. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 758618Explain to me how World Wars One and Two were fought because of religion? Religion is always lurking there somewhere. Religion is the population deluding themselves into believing something that isn't true, and basing their entire lives around it. Maybe *All* wars haven't been fought in the name of religion, therefore I will change my wording to say "Most" wars have religion at their roots. So the 2 Largest Bloodiest Wars in Human history were not fought over religion yet you still cling to your statement. Do you have a 2nd Grade education in History? How can two atheist countries fight a war over religion as in the Sino-Vietmanese war? (My guess is you never even new this war happened) How was the American Civil War over religion? How was the Punic Wars over religion? How were the Napoleanic Wars over religion? In fact name 1 war besides the Crusades and "War on Terror" that can be proven to fought over religion? Heck even the Israeli-Arab Wars are more over territory and nationalism then anything religious. Ghengis Khan, The Roman Empire, Pearl Harbor, The Finnish Winter War, Korean War...you're right-- Nothing to do with religion. |

Quoting: CharlaneIn2009 721516I pick "Religion". Religion. How so? It's a threat is you believe it is. It isn't. Peace to you. Have faith in each other. This does not mean to affiliate with any denomination or church. Know your creator and within you. It is a church of one. I grew up in the christian church, had god pushed on my during my formative years, was forced to go to christian school and wear the uniform... I was raised by my very strict religious grandparents. They spent their entire lives so obsessed over this religion, that they put the church before family, always. God came first. I remember them praying so hard, every day. Now my grandfather is 94 years old, and is suffering dementia. I blame religion, because it ruined all of our lives. And now my grandfather is suffering from a lifetime devoted to this delusion. |

Please, the time is so close, give your self to Jesus, ask for forgiveness and thank HIM for saving you. When you die, you are "in a flash" with the LORD, I want to be with HIM, not Satan. |

I certainly can't begin "worshipping" some entity that I haven't the slightest belief in. |
SoSayWeAll User ID: 718510 United States 09/03/2009 07:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, not religion per-se, but rather... SELFISHNESS Supposedly MONEY is the root of all evil, and it IS, but it is only the UNIT by which we destroy everything good for the fleeting momentary gains to benefit the select few. The PROBLEM is selfishness, and always has been. If we as a species would FIRST ask "What can I do for YOU?" rather than "What can I do for ME?" We would ALL be very much better off. Selfishness and the greed and dishonesty and violence that is it's end result is what turns our best intentions to crap and always has. So I submit that the most important problem facing Humanity is our perpetual self-centered ME ME ME attitude. |

Quoting: ~~**Nightfall**~~Two words: The end. The fact that life on Earth will end one day. It's lasted for billions of years or 6000 (depending on your age of Earth view) but one day the Earth itself will be destroyed and everything on it and pretty much every trace of its existence will be completely wiped out. It will be particularly sad if life never gets of this rock, in that case the tale of Earth will be lost forever with not a single being in the universe even aware of its existence. |

It will be particularly sad if life never gets of this rock, in that case the tale of Earth will be lost forever with not a single being in the universe even aware of its existence. I was having those exact thoughts, only yesterday. It was sad for me to think that all the art, all the music, everything that has ever been created on earth will no longer exist. Life is but a fleeting thing... I marvel at how magnificent we truly are, and never realized about ourselves. OTOH, are we nothing more than a destructive virus on the earth? If that is true, we cannot help our human condition. We consume, we poop, we destroy. BUT, we also build, create, adapt, and are extremely sophisticated and advanced. What a thing to think about, tho. A shame that people's life's work will only be enjoyed by humans for a limited amount of time...then all will be lost. I enjoyed my time here on earth, I hope doom for mankind isn't just around the corner. But, the more I read GLP and related things, the more I learn how tenuous this life really is. But really, my heart does break for humanity. We tried, but the odds were always against us. |

Because we are so wrapped up in material things and creature comforts, that we don't give a hoot about others besides ourselves? Our leaders ego? Does that threaten humanity? You've pretty much got it. The problem with humanity is that we are so wrapped up with ourselves instead of helping others. Just think if we can collectively as a species start looking out for each other instead of trying to prove who's better. If we can all focus our intent into one purpose, ANYTHING is possible. |

Quoting: ~~**Nightfall**~~could you please elaborate more on this? How is it that you believe we will overcome, before we destroy ourselves? time is an illusion. everything happens simultaneously. if it were our destiny not to make it, we would be no more, but we are here. this troubles humanity has been dealing with through recorded history is the healing process. though seen without the illusion of time, it happened in an instant, and we are already healed. thus it is my hypothesis that our existance is proof that healing is inevitable regardless of how that actually manifests. |
~~**Nightfall**~~ (OP) User ID: 200257 Canada 09/03/2009 08:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Overpopulation. But, how do you depopulate the world without "depopulating" yourself? Quoting: FaithI read so much about overpopulation, and how there are those working towards depopulating the planet, to "save" it, but there are those who say there is much space left on the earth, places that are not populated... So what do we believe? People all cram into the same places typically, like big cities, for example. But so much of the earth is left...will we take that too? Great civilizations have risen and fallen in our history, and humans, by default, are born into forms of slavery. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 758245 United Kingdom 09/03/2009 08:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Life is but a fleeting thing... Quoting: ~~**Nightfall**~~Even now consider this. Billions of humans have lived and yet many of them except for a relatively notable few are not remembered. How many stories and ideas have been lost to time? How joys, sufferings, loves and hates have been lost? Most of the people alive now will not be remembered in a 100 or 200 years time, except for a name on a birth certificate and death certificate, and a few tax/government documents here and there. They can't tell the whole story of a person but in the end that's all that remains of most people. It's all rather depressing. |
