One I heard, from Alan Watt of all people, was the concept that the book (and movie) had presented the hobbits as incapable of dealing with the rings, so they had to depend on the opinoins of the powerful and destroy it. So perhaps Frodo was really supposed to keep the ring in the Shire after all, and was tricked into fueling a war by the PTB. Food for thought. |
