Very cool, Hydroponic Carousel Garden, ingenious approach to gardening designed to reduce the use of light, energy, water and land
The plants grow on a carousel that is rotated around LED light sources, yielding more than three to five times the weight of plant per watt of electricity used. The system apparently can produce the same amount of plants in their 150 sq.ft. (13.9m2) system as what would be grown in a 1500 sq.ft.(139m2) greenhouse.

It looks interesting, but it doesn't look like it would work for root vegetables.

And it wouldn't be much good if there is no power source.

The site specifies that you can grow, even the flowers. Thanks for the comment.

Herbs of many varieties can be grown easily with fantastic results. Most strains of leafing and budding herbs adapt well to the nutrition, light, and growing conditions supplied by the Omega Gardens. Specifically, the following types have proven results with huge yields per growing cycle:
Basil
Savory
Mint
Italian Parsley
Feverfew
Oregeno
Majoram
Thyme

Lettuce is another category of food that has proven excellent growing traits with the Omega Gardens. Leafy lettuce varieties tend to work best and show large quantities. Head lettuce may still produce positive results but may be leafier than conventional gardening due to the rotation of the gardens. Here are just a few lettuce types that have great results:

Romaine lettuce
Green leaf lettuces

Rocket lettuce
Red leaf lettuces

Pak Choy lettuce
Red Butterhead

Swiss Chard
Loose Leaf

Fruit bearing plants of small to mid size also have demonstrated good growing yields in the Omega Gardens. Due to the rotation of the cylinders, larger fruits or heavier objects may need to be staked or suspended but a little tender care will go along way.

Peppers

Strawberries

Eggplants

Tomatoes

Flowers grow easily and beautifully in the wonderful glow of the rotating cylinders. A large selection of perennial and annual species result in color blooms that last for months.
Marigolds

Impatients

Nasturtium

Pansies

Grows with water and artificial light and the rotation of the cylinder.

Re: Very cool, Hydroponic Carousel Garden, ingenious approach to gardening designed to reduce the use of light, energy, water and land
I'd like to see more hydroponic ideas on this thread. Dennis Weaver ( R.I.P.) had a house in a mountain in Ouray Colorado and grew his vegies indoors with solar windows. The whole idea of hydroponics is intriguing and maybe the answer when the sky goes awry. Water is liquid light? I would imagine some lighting still is needed if not enough from the window.

That's the new 'big' thing with bud gardeners. A vertical garden quadruples the yield with same amount of light in the same space. The downside for us med growers is the wayyyyyy high plant numbers. i have a homemade vertical aeroponic rig that can change from tomatoes to carrots/radishes with a simple tray changeout.(and yeah, i grow veggies this way too)
