have you considered that dna may break down over time whereas other minerals such as those in bone may not break down quite so easily?

The process of fossilization is when the specimen is covered with sediments that protect and preserves the specimen from the natural element that would decompose turning them to dust and ashes. If you don't have the fossilization process, you don't have any preserved TISSUES (hard or soft) because if the natural elements permeate the TISSUES (hard or soft) they decay and turn to dust and ashes, you have nothing but sediments over sediments, the earth's compressed surface.

Plastic scrimshaw, machine-made tapestries, Polish cut-glass, reproduction "antique" furniture from Brazil, Majolica from China...this crap has been going on for years. Caveat emptor, as they say. I have found that some auctioneers will take on an estate sale with legitimate antiques but will haul in a bunch of cheap imports made to look like antiques (Indian rugs, tooled leather, cameo glass, etc)and then auction them off at antique prices knowing there will be ignorant buyers that don't know any better. And Auctioneers aren't held liable for pieces sold at auction because they are representatives of a seller and not authorities.
