So far, in my opinion, this is the most bizarre of all the Obama headline makers since he first came on the scene in 2007. I was shocked when he made a "European tour" while running for U.S. President. It would have been like Sarkozy or Merkel coming to America while running for office in their respective countries. On a lesser note, I was surprised that he bowed down to a Saudi Prince as well as Michelle getting all touchy/feely with the Queen of England. I followed some of his comments about the award and even he seems uncomfortable about it. Obviously, the Nobel committee has gotten caught up in "hope" and "change" - words which speak of the future and not about "now" or "in the past" as far as achievements. This act denigrates the award and makes any diplomatic maneuvering for Obama more difficult. It is so bizarre that a world leader is awarded a Nobel Peace Prize while fighting two pretty hefty wars. It would have been so much more powerful to award him the prize AFTER the U.S. has wrapped up and withdrawn from both Iraq and Afghanistan, but realistically, that will be years, if not decades in the future. |
