I mean, I would prefer something healthy, but if I took a transfer I would know that there is a chance of my body rejecting it either way. Quoting: Winningjob??? Oh, fuck it. |
damn User ID: 792641 United States 10/12/2009 07:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They're transplanting organs out of patients who died from lung cancer. Most die as a result of heart failure, combined with emphysema, but I guess if the transplantee has a functional heart, he might survive a few months.. I suppose the hearts they use came from cardiac arrest patients. How about eyeballs from the blind??? God this pisses me off. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 647422 United States 10/12/2009 07:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Lung cancer sucks. Presumably the guy would have died sooner without the transplant, so any time he got was gravy. Hope he appreciated it. There are never enough organs to go around. Be an organ doner, at least until the stem cell research lets us grow new ones in vats. |

Do you think theyd've let this nobody have a set of healthy lungs? |

I cannot find anything funny about this. But, I will say, that with a little money they could have had perfectly healthy Chinese prisoner lungs. It's like ordering take out (literally) from the Chinese. You order it, they check out a prisoner to make sure he has good lungs, then they take him out and put a gun to the back of his head and pull the trigger and you got lungs! The only reason that this soldier didn't get those lungs is because Britain has a policy against accepting Chinese organs. Neither one of these situations is funny, it just shows how cheap life is anymore. Whichever dehumanized victim you would feel sorry for, or maybe you just can't feel any emotion anymore and just laugh at these sufferings, we all all being dehumanized now, soon enough you be the poor son of a bitch on the operating table, getting Obamacare rationed and scrounged organs or whatever. How funny is that? If it's me, you'll laugh at me, if it's you, will you be laughing? How will it feel at our laughing at you while you gasp for air. Pretty funny, huh? Can we bring beer and popcorn and watch you suffer? Aw, C'mon, it'll be hilarious! You make a couple of good points, which is why I encourage support of any research that gets us closer to growing new organs from stem cells or whatever. Once the bugs are worked out there's no reason getting a transplant of new lungs containing your DNA can't be as easy as going to McDonalds, and no more expensive than buying a good used car. Then no one laughs at anyone but the comics. |

I want nothing form anyone to extend my life nor shall I give of my organs for the same purpose! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 792660I'm with you, the reason I'm not an organ donor? I know I'm a bit paranoid about government, etc. look what forum I'm on. But seriously, if you're an organ donor these days, and let's say the Obama cronies are deciding whether to help you with , let's say you have a 50%-60% chance of survival. They decide that you, let's say a known Conservative or Libertarian is out cold and some Elite government type, like Kissinger or Jimmy Carter needs an organ. Do you trust a doctor like Howard Dean, to decide to help you, or help his friend? Yeah, I know it sounds paranoid, but we're talking about the likes of Howard Dean, and the rest of the crazed "Yee Haaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!! crowd , I'm just sayin', I'm using my organs and then they go in the ground, unless I get sent to the wrong hospital. Lastcall User ID: 792663 United States 10/12/2009 08:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You have to take anti-rejection drugs when you receive a transplant to prevent your body from rejecting the organ One of the risks is ANY CANCEROUS cells start growing like wild fire (immune system is suppressed by the drugs) and if you do develop cancer there's really nothing that can be done about it. So using lungs from someone who was a heavy smoker is taking one hell of a gamble...of course you also have to factor in that anyone needing a lung transplant will probably be dead in a year if they dont get it. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 660494 Australia 10/13/2009 01:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | NOt all heavy smokers die of lung cancer. More than likely they died in a car accident and their organs were freshly tranplanted into this ingrate. If this practice of using smokers lungs is pretty common and he just happened to have copped the lungs of someone who had early stage lung cancer, then it's just BAD LUCK. Just like if the lungs were of a non smoker who it was found had early stage lung cancer. Shit happens. NOthing is guaranteed. Lung cancer is hard to detect and most people don't know they have it until it's almost terminal. So it's not something you can reliably screen for in situations like this, without slicing the lung and making it untransplantable anyway. The guy got an extra year with loved ones. A year he wouldn't have had otherwise thanks to some heavy smoker who donated his lungs. The voice of reason......... |
