Are we not now passing throught the remains of Halley's comet? On the news the other night they said to watch for meteor showers.

On a thread yesterday someone posted that there would be a large meteor that would hit Paris soon, I can't remember the details. But it seems that there have been a lot of these lately....

If they would have "dugged" it any further..They might have hit china

This is quite exciting if it is confirmed. Looks pretty real to me. I have sent it off to my resident amateur astronomer. Perhaps it was a big chunk of space debris. Scary!

a giant meteorite lands in the hills above the nearby town of Linda Rosa. Along with the residents, he goes to investigate. Finding the meteorite too hot to examine closely, he decides to wait in town for the meteorite to cool down.

Later, after most of the people have gone home, the meteorite (actually a spacecraft) unscrews and disgorges a machine.

Current 'official opinion' is that it is a pro hoax. More detailed chemical analysis of the soil from the site is yet to be done.
I am still wondering, how the hell one of the so called experts Uldis Nulle changed his opinion so fast.
Even if it's a hoax, it must be a coverup of something else.

a 35 metre bolide would produce a crater of about 700 feet

that one, if it WAS a bona fide space rock, which i don't think it was, was about a metre

No one was injured after a meteorite fell near a small town in northern Latvia on Sunday, local Latvian media reported. According to media reports, the meteorite fell near a residential house on the outskirts of Mazsalaca town in the Valmiera district of Latvia, leaving a crater of some 20 meters (66 feet) in diameter and 10 meters (33 feet) deep.


A spokesperson for the Latvian State Fire and Rescue Service said that rescuers and soldiers immediately cordoned off the territory, however, it is still not clear whether it was an asteroid or a space satellite. "The territory has been immediately cordoned off as we still do not know what fell down from the sky. According to preliminary information, it was a meteorite.


However, it is possible that it was a [space] satellite or its fragment. A radioactive contamination is also possible," she said. A witness, who saw the object falling from the sky and leaving a burning trace behind, said it was making a noise similar to the one of an aircraft flying at a low altitude.

No one has mentioned the Orionids meteor shower (October 17 to 25, peaking around Oct 21). With an impact rate of 20-25 per hour, you might just get a big one, just because it is unusual for a hit, doesn't mean it didn't happen. Link below:
