Nice, Pud, that is the one I would have chosen too. I got my guy at the pound - 14 years ago. There were about 30 cats waiting to be adopted and he was the loudest one of the all - and it was love at first meow. BTW, he's still loud, lol.

They have about 6 or so cats. Four of them are cute kittens, who will undoubtedly get adopted in a day or two.

There were 2 adult cats. One of the adults is a beautiful white cat with blue eyes...no doubt it'll be adopted soon as well.

Then there's the cat I'm going to get. He's about 8 yrs old, scruffy, and shy. The poor guy has only one eye, and the tip of his tail is gone. He's been there for a couple weeks...no one wants him, so I filled out the papers to adopt him.

He's not pretty, but he's sweet, and will have a fantastic home for the rest of his days!

Hopefully he gets along with my current cat.

Awww, this thread made my day. I have three dogs and three cats. All of my animals are rescues... animals that someone else discarded. One of my dogs has a big ugly scar on his back from where someone burned him. He is the best, sweetest animal you could imagine. He is so gentle that I was able to get him certified as a therapy dog. I've found that often the animals that are the least physically attractive have the best personalities and end up being the most devoted pets. You made the right choice. I hope you and your new kitty have many happy years together.

That may take time. They need to understand that YOU, as the biggest cat in the house, EXPECT them to sort it out in a reasonable fashion.

Sorting it out can take a variety of forms. My cut was that no one was allowed to draw blood. But, mostly my cats spent a lot of time dancing around one another, testing space and dominance, a spattering of hissing and batting. Two incoming cats were wise enough to give lots fo space and not push boundaries, and just let the resident cats eventually offer peace.

Lots of us have been through adding cats. Just make sure your resident cat does not feel he/she has been rejected, replaced or displaced by you. At the same time, the new cat has to feel wanted.

Putting the new cat's food and water in a separate location, giving the cats separate litter boxes, may help. Require them both to mind their manners reasonably well. This is what I have always done. Eventually, the cats have wound up sharing the same bowls and litter box on their own, and the extras could be dispensed with.

Herding cats is such fun!
