The batch that is being held back was shipped in late October and had the lot number A80CA007A. Approximately 170,000 doses are affected by the recall. Swine Flu Vaccine Linked to Severe Allergic Reactions in Canada"GSK is taking this cautionary action because the Public Health Agency of Canada has received a higher than expected number of reports of anaphylaxis in this lot number compared to other lots," the company explained in a written statement. According to Manitoba health officials, severe allergic reactions result from approximately one in 20,000 injections. However, the standard rate of severe allergic reactions is approximately one in 100,000. According to a November 19 article by the Canadian Press, the reactions have been short-lived and have not caused any permanent injuries. CTV News reported on November 20 that of the 6.6 million doses of the vaccine given so far in Canada, there have been 36 reports of serious adverse reactions. Most of those reactions were allergic reactions that began within moments of the vaccination. However, one Canadian reportedly died from anaphylactic reaction following a vaccination with the H1N1 vaccine. Medical officials have not yet conclusively linked the death to the vaccine. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 758025 ![]() 11/24/2009 12:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey guys, good news!!! Yesterday I just got word that the vaccine is being provided and available on the local campus, for free, to those under 25 and also senior citizens!!! Like they need it, they're just going to die anyway, but the limited supply is available to me!!!! I'm going to pass. While we have seen quite a bit of swine flu, people say they feel like death, no one has died and it seems to be calming down. |

[link to news.bbc.co.uk] Canada's doctors told to stop using swine flu vaccine GlaxoSmithKline says it is investigating the reports GlaxoSmithKline has advised doctors in Canada to stop using a batch of its swine flu vaccine, amid reports of severe side-effects in some patients. The batch of some 170,000 doses was put on hold because of the reported higher than usual number of patients having anaphylactic reactions. This may include breathing problems, raised heart rate and skin rashes. The pharmaceutical company said it was investigating the reports, which could lead to the withdrawal of the batch. The reports say one in 20,000 people suffered adverse reactions to the batch of GlaxoSmithKline's Aperanix vaccine. This is five times the expected number. None of the patients reportedly suffered long-term ill-effects. |
