that's right. google is now offering free public dns servers. now google can learn even more about you and sell that info to the highest bidder. and goodbye opendns. time to fold up shop. how long before the emerging google monopoly is broken apart?

"Today's news can prompt two very different views of Google, based on the announcement of its free Google Public DNS.

In one view, Google is our best friend and a noble public servant. In the other, Google may be the darkest force on the Internet. Which is it? We all must decide.

Here's the news: Today Google has begun offering an experimental, but stable, Public Domain Name Server (DNS), described in a Thursday post to Google's Official Blog."

why switch? do you think google's dns will be faster than whichever dns you currently use? do you mind google's expanding hegemony over your internet experience?

I kept wondering how far comcast would get before people rebelled. If people payed for cable as a public utility the entire system would have been paid for many years ago, but instead we have ever-escalating monthly fees and now comcast is buying up television stations and hollywood movie studios.

Why would you do that? Giving one company access to millions of peoples surfing destinations is STUPID.

Not to mention the path to Goggles name servers will almost certainly be more hops then the ones provided by your ISP.

You really want top performance? Set up your own. That way you have privacy and speed.

No way I would use the stupid things.
