Here's a poem a cyberfriend sent me today. I think he may have written it.

And so the Shortest Day came and the year died.
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing, to drive the dark away
They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive.

And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, reveling
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us - listen!

This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.

Happy Solstice everyone! It's kind of amazing to me that the first day of winter is the same day we tip back toward the light. We've got three months of cold and dark ahead... but the longest dark is past now. Keep the hearthfires burning... remember what's really true: consumerism, malls, those vapid Xmas carols will not feed your soul. Family, spirituality, and connecting to the Earth, will.

Here's my wish for 2010: F*** the "paradigm." Forget your political ideology for six months. Be a true revolutionary and plant your own garden. Get acquainted with your neighbors. Make amends with friends and family. Put up seeds. The only way the human race will survive what's coming (through our own stupidity) is if we form small local connections and start to become tribal again.

Unfortunately I feel sure that too many of you are still brainwashed by ideologies...
