QWEST CHARGING ME FOR INTERNET THAT I DISCONNECTED | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 856145 United States 01/03/2010 12:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had a cable service that I was canceling. I went to the office with the modem and my checkbook just in case I owed anything. I believe I was paid up if not ahead. They said I didn't owe anything and if the address was current if they had to send me anything. I assumed that was a pro rated refund. Two months later I got a bill for about a months worth of service. I'm thinking they were charging me for the time it took them to get a technician out to disconnect my service? Which is bullshit as there would be nothing outside my apartment to disconnect but perhaps a filter that would have nothing to do with my receiving service. It's probably crapping up my slave rating(credit report) as we speak. Bottom line, every corporate service can and will do everything and anything they are able to get away with to increase shareholder value and show strong earnings. Even if its illegal, it comes down to cost/benefit analysis. |

It will be interesting to see what they have to say about this extra billing. I for sure and going to cancel EVERY service with qwest now, and suggest that no one use qwest service if they can stay away from it. |

Sorry, I understand your frustration, really, but the BBB is a fraud as well, do not bother. I could get you links if you cared or you could do some research. Your ability to hurt them where it counts is limited. You MIGHT convince one or two people away, and with one flashy ad campaign and a deceptive introductory offer with 2 year contract they will kill. Cut your losses and move forward. |

Unmotivated, underpaid and often disgruntled. I once had a Directv guy turn on my satellite for one day (which they begged me to "suspend" instead of closing)so they could charge me. I realized the guy was disgruntled because I told him the dish was on my boat...jealous fuck wanted to screw with me. |

Yeah I've heard the BB is useless. I know if quest frauds me out of a couple hundred dollars, I will publish my complete experience at several watchdog websites online. Anonymous Coward User ID: 836255 United States 01/03/2010 12:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I contacted Qwest 2 months ago and told them I wanted internet service disconnected and to continue with only a limited metered phone service of about $10 a month. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 592518I was quite late in returning the dsl modem, about a month late, but now they are billing me for 2 months of internet service 2 months after I asked them to stop internet service! I am going to call them tomorrow and confront them on this bill. Q - can they continue billing me for internet service simply because I was late in returning the dsl modem? Q - how can I force them to not charge me for 2 months of internet service that I told them I did not want? thanks It depends on when the dates and billing cycles were. When did you phone to cancel, when was your usual billing, and when did you return the modem? |

Qwest also sold my name and address to marketing / spamming agencies after I told them not to. Leeches. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 798520 United States 01/03/2010 12:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You had the modem that you could have used. Are you saying you really want a system where they are OBLIGATED to WATCH what you do online and charge accordingly? They did not charge you for the modem, charge you for theft of the modem. Look up conversion, you caused them a monetary loss by failing to return the modem, charging for the service seems like a reasonable restitution. |

I was usually billed monthly for about $60. I returned the modem about a month after I canceled service. BUT if they are screwing with me for not returning the modem in a timely manner, then I expect to be charged for only the rental fee for the modem, not 2 extra months for internet service. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 856145 United States 01/03/2010 01:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They see us as a commodity to exploit not a customer to serve. They are national/trans-national. There are limited physical resources yet almost a never ending supply of replacement humans in an ever increasingly dumbed down state. Find something to fight for, fighting against a corporate entity short of total revolutionary war is futile. |

That's probably how they really got you. You probably can get one of the two months waived unless you are "early-terminating." For instance, say you called to cancel on August 4th... But they sent you your usual bill on July 15th to be paid on August 1st. But you're already into this billing cycle and billed-for month. Then, you don't have the modem returned before the next billing cycle/period changes. You could have had your modem hooked up until the day you mailed it and they will assume you did and will charge you accordingly within their rights. You could have called and then returned your modem immediately within a few days and done this just before the next billing period began and had no problems, probably. Too bad |

If anything, I owe them $10 modem rental and a month or 2 of $10/MO phone service. Sure as hell not over a hundred. |

Too bad We'll see what they say - I'll post it here. You're probably right - they'll probably say I kept the modem too long. I would expect them to switch off my internet whether I kept the modem or not. It's clear that corporations will charge a person any fees they can just to get more money. I'm sure qwest is just like the banks. but really is that what they do? I call and tell them I want to cancel internet service, and they leave internet service turned ON for me, just in case I keep the modem for an extra month? Is that the game? |

Yes I told them at the beginning and a few more times to not sell my name/address, but they did anyway. Yes I've read about patents and how hard they are to defend. Getting a trademark name and building it up is smarter from what I hear. Of course I would not fight qwest in court, but I would inject this information into several watchdog groups online and then give it to the universe. George Hayduke might have some answers on this too.. |
