People do whatever they can to try to be unique but most are very predictable. |

A couple months ago I was walking downtown in the city I live and an older English couple stopped me to ask where the nearest public restrooms were. It was hard to explain so that they would get the directions, so I decided to walk with them there. On the walk we talked about their travels and they told me that they had traveled all over the world and the friendliest people were, by far, Americans. They were currently traveling throughout the Rockies and the Southwest to get a feel of the 'cowboys and indians' Old West life. They said everywhere they stopped they made friends and they were amazed by the beautiful scenery in America. It was so nice to be reminded how amazing America really is. Don't knock America until you've spent time here. |

But every country has it's pros and cons. The food (produce) is much fresher in Central/South American countries and the taste of fruits can't compare to anything you buy in the U.S. Travel is much easier in Europe, but just the basics of hotels and stores can't compare to the U.S. I feel extremely cramped everywhere I go in Europe, just because the buildings are so small and narrow (same with Japan). Most of the buildings, cars, etc... in the U.S. are new or refurbished every few years, whereas in the rest of the world, they'll go 50-100 years before fixing-up a place. I definitely could live in another country other than the U.S., but I prefer to live in the U.S. because I like my temper-pedic mattress. As far as intelligence, most Americans are really knowledgeable in their fields of work, but they are not knowledgeable in the day-to-day goings of the world. (We don't get much world news here anyway). So I wouldn't say that the U.S. population over 25 is dumb, but rather apathetic. |

However, the majority of the people are so willfully ignorant of absolutely anything of importance going on around them, this will not be the case for much longer. There is a clear divide between people my age (30) and those who were born after 1980. Young people do not read, they are not interested in history, and literally have never known a world where anything one can imagine is not offered on an on-demand basis. There is a concerted effort going on in this country to make sure kids do not know how to build or make anything with their hands, think critically about any subject, or have any real human experience at all. This country still has the potential to be paradise for everyone willing to work hard and take responsibility for themselves and their actions, but as long as people continue to elect criminals (i.e. any democrat or republican, without exception) to represent them, that potential will tragically never be reached. |
