Arizona screwed itself with racism v. Hispanics

I visited AZ for a few months several years ago. Then I visited again in 2007. The first time, I had a great, cool time. The second time was awful.

What had changed between the two visits?

I have dark hair and dark eyes and can be mistaken for Hispanic. In between my two stays, AZ went from being a place with a cool, awesome atmosphere to being a hostile, ugly place toward me. The change wasn't in any one person's open behavior toward me, but in a pattern of being given the cold shouder in pubic, getting bad service in restaurants, ugly looks, etc.

If this is how strangers with dark hair and dark eyes are treated in AZ, it screwed itself b/c not everyone in the US has blonde hair and/or blue eyes.

I have no desire to go back to AZ, and I can only imagine the bad mood that legal resident Hispanics feel. I have better things to do than be demeaned by paranoid racist trash.

IMO Arizona got consumed by a self-defeating war on immigrants and it totally sucks now.
