It is a general statement, but arguably true. A good example would be Katrina. I know people who sat in dead stop traffic for 10 hours to travel 60 miles inland. This went on for days. Not to dwarf Katrina, but TEOTWAWKI or TSHTF is much MUCH worse than that. Sitting duck, unless you own a teleporter. If you bug out close by like the guy that posted that thread, do you really think hungry people won't venture to the forest to either shoot deer or forage for food? Come on.

I personally would rather die, not only defending my turf, but defending and helping honest good people survive a cataclysmic circumstance. Dying in the middle of the sticks because I was only thinking of myself puts no weight in your expiration whatsoever. You may live a bit longer than the rest, but you die a coward or have to live with yourself in reflection after it blows over.


No, that is a bad example. They had several days warning.
And if, like you say this SHTF scenario is going to be worse. Why stick around for it?

I am saying that, people like us, here on GLP, have heard the warning.

With Katrina, if you had got out of town upon the first warning, you would have been OK.

The warning for this big SHTF scenario gives us months or possibly years. There is time. No one here needs to be stuck on a road or in a traffic jam.

Every situation is different. The set up you describe is pretty good. It might bring some hope to survivors.
But while you hunker down, there will be gangs in the cities that will organize and raid SWAT/Nat Guard facilities.
Eventually they will make an attempt to overrun you.
