If I was in that situation, I would not be waiting for somebody to feed me. As long as I hadn't suffered serious head injuries, I would be leaving the main population areas asap and look-out for/feed myself and my family.

well there is a fine line between being in a situation of poverty, catastrophe and violence and actually having a mindset that calls for this type of situation. But if we go into this kind of discussion, soon enough we will be accused of generalizing, specially now that everybody is sensitized with the event.

I just heard on Shepard Smith that the Hatian govt says 40,000 already buried and another 100,000 thought to also be dead.

If someone is blocking that road, me thinks something is there down the road, like a food storage.

Maybe the story is twisted. Maybe they don't WANT the aid.
We all know most of the money has already been stolen, probably before the ink on the check was even dry.

It's like that Bild picture of yesterday with the hundreds of corpses piled up. Some people claim how cruel the Haitians are, turned out that place is a makeshift morgue.

Whether they are blocking the roads with bodies to keep people out or draw attention, they are still irreverantly using the dead bodies of their families, friends, and neighbors in what most of the world would consider to be a barbaric way.

Could this have something to do with voodoo? I have no idea. This is so far our of reason for me I just can't fathom it.

Most are poor and uneducated and have no real sense of how the world works. Their reaction can be seen as ignorant children. Have patience with them and hopefully they will learn. Don't know.

Also, look at the inbreeding that happens within closed locations like islands. This also leads to many mental and emotional problems. I am not surprised they are acting the way they are. It is tragic. Most sane and competent people would act crazy also if their whole world crashed down. I can't even imagine. So we are dealing with something that we really have never dealt with.

I thought of what to do and I came up with nothing good. Or just trying to save the ones that can be saved. Or worse(or maybe not) is shipping the well ones out permanently and the ones who have a hope to different countries who will take them. They would have to be spread out all over so as to not crash economies and let Haiti be dealt with in the years to come. It would have to be mostly inhabited to get it into a livable situation to never return to what it was. Maybe do away with Haiti all together and have DR take it over.

Once the bodies begin to decompose, you don't want to be anywhere near Port-Au-Prince.

So what happens if the relief workers are not able to get food and supplies into the areas it is needed? How would the criminal element be dealt with? Who deals with them? American workers, nor military can arrest nor detain them right? Where would they be put even if they could?
