Lost Our Home, Relocated To Find Work, About To Be Laid Off A Second Time...Now What??:(
Stuck in California...we want to move to AZ, to be closer to my in-loves, but then my husband won't receive UI benefits...just when we think we've been hit with every thing under the sun...here comes the kitchen sink right upside the head:(

Feeling really discouraged...my UI benefits are nearly out and then it's waiting for an extension...I could really use some prayers...

Thanks for listening guys...I know I'm not alone. Funny, he's usually the practicle one and thinks me nuts often for coming here...but just last week we had "the talk" and he's been feeling the need to consolidate, lighten the load, and stock up on supplies...then today we get hit with this news:(

No one is perfect. A babe before walking will first stumble and fall many times but NEVER gives up until he succeeds.

Always remember, ultimately, to never follow any person's belief. Your relationship with God is between you and God.

If nothing else, remember this: religion = subservience, control and conformity, the same template as EVERY government

"Most believers would kill truth if truth threatened their religion." L. K. Washburn

"This crime called blasphemy was invented by priests for the purpose of defending doctrines not able to take care of themselves." Robert Ingersoll

"If anyone wants to know how God feels, it's a warm light as if the sun is poking through dark clouds and lifting your spirits with pure joy."

Does the UI send a check to your home?
I thought most were rechargeable cards or direct deposit.

Basically, how will they know if you leave CA.

It's best to stay with the family if you can. I'm sorry for all your troubles. Family has to stick together at times like these. Sometimes, I think getting laid off was the best thing that ever happened to me, I got to spend time with my mother before she passed away. If I was working, I'd have very little time. I had very little sympathy from those fuckers when my dad died.

We are fortunate in that we have set aside a nest egg for ourselves in the form of a 401K that we can dip into if we absolutely have to and it's looking like that might be the case. But that's supposed to be for our retirement. We're both in our 40's so that seems a long way off still...but we may not have a choice. My husband had already enrolled into college because he sees the handwriting on the wall in thes economy and he just doesn't see it getting any better with millions out of work in this country, but the field he's chosen to branch off into could take up to a year to get his degree...

He's feeling so discouraged right now...that's got to be a real beating to a man's ego. I'm trying to be there for him, but I don't think this is something I can fix this time. All I can do is let him know how much I love him and that as long as we have each other, everything else will work out...I hate seeing him like this! He's such a hard worker with a solid work ethic. He doesn't deserve what's happening to him...then again, no one really does.

People just want to provide for their families...is that such a bad thing?

Find out if there are local foodbanks, and if so, go to them. It'll help your situation.

Unemployment insurance only is good for a while, at best, so sounds like consolidation and perhaps moving is in your future bigtime. Just the way of it, and it's not just you, though I know it feels that way alot.

Wish I had a ray of sunshine to share or a fluffy bunny story to tell, but we're all circling the drain to one degree or another, all of us.

Thank you. I'm trying to remind myself of this...it's hard though when reality hits you upside the head. sigh These are the times that try men's hearts.

We are fortunate though, we have family that loves us, and a 401 K Many don't have those things, and then I think of the poor Haitians...they make me feel like a millionair. I need to keep my perspective.

If you don't have a large family, you might want to invest in a travel trailer. At least you don't have to sign contracts for rent or to buy a house, and you can move it around with you. You can own your own home and save most of what you make for a rainy day. There are always places which will let you rent a space for not a lot of money. It's a little more work as you have to empty the septic and pump in water.

You guys are absolutely awesome!! You've been there for me more times than I can count. I know that many on here are suffering financially as well and probably see my "problems" as nothing compared to their own, and yet people still come and ecourage and try to uplift when one is feeling down.

This site is the best and as soon as we can find some financial stability, I plan to start supporting it again. Trinity, my hat's off to you and all of the mods for making this site into the hub of humanity and vital information that it's become. headbang

I appreciate your taking the time to respond. Yea...we're already discussing ways to cut back and there are several. Our rent was about to go up in February due to it being the end of our contract, so we were already looking for another place, but it looks like we're going to have to begin looking at places we bipassed when he had a guaranteed paycheck coming in. We're considering looking at a used travel trailer, and putting our stuff into storage until we can get back up on our feet again...With it just being the two of us, we don't need as much room as soon to be empty nesters.

It seems like soooo many things are about to come to a head...like we're being almost pushed into some direction. We just need to figure out where that is. scratching

I would probably leave Cali, but that's me. The last time I was in So Cal the cost of living was out of sight. It is tuff starting out no matter where you are but some places are definitely worse.

Then talk your son into changing his mind about joining the tyrannical military. They need no support. He would make more money/hrs at McDs and be safer. Do you want him to be vaccinated thoroughly? The food they serve must be loaded with salt, I came out at the age of 25 with HBP.

Anywoo, prayers sent.

I've got friends in a similiar position. Their youngest is heading off to college, and they're selling their house, cashing in what's left of the retirement they were planning on, and hitting the road. Reverting back to the hippie/gypsy craftshow lifestyle they enjoyed before parenthood and associated responsibilities.

They realize, too, that that's only good for a season, until total collapse comes. They're trusting to have found an obscure niche somewhere before then.

Sorry, honey. Lots of pain now and I have no advice for ya. You can cry on my shoulder though. Hang in there.
Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support!
