Our School District NEVER Gave The Kids The Day Off For MLK Day Till Obama Became POTUS

My hubby was born in Brooklyn (his fam is from the Dominican Republic) and we he first moved down here over 13 years ago, he thought it was weird that the school districts down here never really "acknowledged" if you will, MLK Day. I guess they always had the day off in Brooklyn.

After some time, he became use to it.

It wasn't until Obama became POTUS that many districts down here starting giving the kids the day off of school. I think it's pretty nice, except for the part that it didn't happen till Obama became the prez.

For as long as I can remember, my kids never had school on MLK day BUT it always ends up being a make up snow day.

So up until now you weren't aware that basically the rest of the country has been taking this day for a good 15-20 years now? I find that a bit hard to believe frankly, but if it is true, I can only imagine what other practices may still go on in "deep" Texas that the rest of the country has given up.
