Yes it bothers me. I don't even acknowledge mine, its just another freakin day in my life. Who really cares that "oooh I was born on this day xx years ago". Get over yourselves ya egomaniacal fools.

I SO agree with both these posts. Big deal...everybody has a birthday every year. Ok..I'll let 100-year olds have a party, but everybody else needs to stop at 21 and shut up.

If social pressure didn't compel you to lighten your wallet for someone you'd rather not, you'd have no problem with it, would you?

I have friends that do that too. They just need an excuse to throw a party, nothing wrong with that. I don't tell anyone when my birthday is. I celebrate it with whoever I chose and don't tell anyone it's my birthday.

Yeah, and they're usually fat assed pigs with cankles and shoulder pads in their sweaters with sequined embroidery. But hey, times are shit, people need to feel uplifted at least one day out of the year. Personally though, I don't give a shit about mine.

Yes it bothers me greatly, but what bother's me even more on the subject are fools such as yourself, who despising such a celebration, fail to grasp the meaning behind the forced indoctrinated festivity of celebrating a revolution around the sun...yes you hate it but dont know why and without why you remain as ignorant as these people you despise...for that sir...ur failure is greater than theirs...at least the completely ignorant cant be blamed...but you...you dammit...should better!

My grandmother on my dads side used to get drunk if I didn't send her a birthday card AND call her on her birthday. All of her friends told her that I was an ungrateful grand daughter if I didn't acknowledge her birthday.

However, my elderly friends around here laugh at her. They don't want to be reminded that they are a year older.

In many offices, they have a quarterly birthday cake & ice cream coffee break to celebrate for everyone who had a birthday during that time. Lots easier on the wallet, and I think more appropriate for adults.

Why not not suggest something like that for your office?

We did a similar thing at the last office I worked for.

Approx 50 employees ... once a month would be Birthday Day, and the firm provided cake and coffee or punch for everyone. Short announcement on the PA ... Birthday Cake in the conference room. Everyone would migrate there for cake and conversation for about 20 to 30 minutes. Whosever birthdays it was were acknowledged ... as I said, a bit of chitchat and visiting, then back to work.

Worked out well. Even the senior partners were there.

Fortieth, fiftieth, and sixtieth birthdays are best spent recovering from whatever plastic surgery you just had so you won't look like the wreck of the hespers for teh upcoming decade. After 70, you really have to just be happy you're still here. That's quite an accomplishment when you come down to it.

Yep, it bothers me, if it's every year, and too extravagant, but this year I turn 50 so its my turn to have a party, and it will be all the more of a celebration because I don't do it every year, or even every decade.

I actually get embarrassed for the 47 year old woman as she sits with all her little nieces and nephews around her as she opens her presents - with the little ones ooo-ing and ahhhh-ing over her gifts - and the child-like look of joy on her face with every present she opens.

YES. I have a 30 year old girl friend who gets super upset when she doesn't get "enough" attention for her stupid birthday. Geez.... grow up and think about somebody besides yourself for once. Tards.

I feel sorry for my step kids. Their Mom has a "Birthday WEEK". Lord help them if it doesn't meet with her approval (and it rarely does). But come Christmas or Birthdays for them? Maybe one thing. Usually clothes. No party. No cake. Clearly, this leaves an impression.

We make a big deal for the kids. Red "You are Special Today" plate for dinner. Cake, baloons, friends, party. But for us.....maybe dinner out, a Margarita or two?

I had a former girlfriend who had a female "best friend" whose birthday she forgot. This "best friend" called her up and hysterically cursed her out for it. It left my gf in tears, and left me to deal with a bitchy gf for the next couple of days. This "best friend" was probably around 38 years old, but acting like an 8 year-old. Pure narcissism is what the problem is. What's even more pathetic is when men act that way.

Most are tired old souls approaching soul death. Poor things, let them have their fun before they finally RIP.

I wasn't going to mention this, but I have only found this true among women. It's like they insist that the clouds parted and the heavens sent them to earth on their special day.

The only thing worse than an office party is a office birthday party or god forbid a fucking office baby shower.

Heres another one. Last week I got an email invite to a conference room to watch a wedding video from some body I barely know. Talk about uncomfortable. If you go you want to crawl under a table and if you don't go you know that person hates you for blowing off the best day of their life which to you is a totally insignificant event. "Gee you got married that's great. I hear a lot of people do that".

These are the same self absorbed people who will drive around one day with those stupid license plates that say "let me tell you about my grandchildren". Seriously -Who gives a rats ass. I hear lots of people have grandchildren too.

Nah, doesn't bother me. They're usually just attention whores kinda like the posters that constantly litter the front page on GLP day after day.

Milestone bdays should be celebrated though. Myself, I plan on ushering in the new four-oh decade with me and my sistas at Dr. Perky's Resort & Spa.
