The philosophical nature of the movie 'Groundhog Day'

Live every day to its fullest; but there's probably a dozen meanings you could get from that movie.

Great movie. I think the message was that if you scrutinise the reason why you are following your superficial desire you will find what you truly desire.

So many opportunities in a day to be the best person you can be, but he wasn’t even trying. Then by being forced to do the same day over and over he gradually learned how to get everything right. On the final day, he did everything perfectly, then he was able to graduate to the next day.
So glad real life doesn’t work that way. It would take forever.

It is a reincarnation metaphor, get your shit together or be stuck here forever. I thought this was common knowledge...

He was able to remember what he had learned from the day before and become better and better until he didn’t need any more improvement.

Real life could also work that way if we made the effort to improve every day, even though the challenges are different from day to day.

It offers a simple formula for becoming godlike, no?

Well...I noticed that Bill Murray--the guy who kept repeating
the same day over and over in the script of the movie--would
become more and more compassionate and more intelligent as
he went along.

So for THAT to be the case, you would see the many lessons
of a LONG LIFE to be to push you toward MORE compassion and
more intelligence.

But it's a movie...and many people live to be VERY OLD
and are still very uncompassionate and get dumber with age!

Strong cases of apparent reincarnation, such as the one involving James Leininger, etc, etc, suggest that some aspect of quantum physics is at work in the human soul.

Reincarnation is not a pleasant notion. Most people going going back to time immemorial have led fairly miserable existences. Or what a British writer wrote centuries ago: "People living short, nasty, brutish lives."

No thank you.

And you don’t remember your prior mistakes and are not the same individual with same personality redoing the same life, so not the same concept as Groundhog Day.

it means once you tire of life's superficiality and material excesses your soul searches for true meaning in this world.

Very well written screenplay.

For me it is an illustration of the fact that everything exists in the eternal present, all that changes is our perspective or 'viewpoint in time'.

In this case ^that^ reality, his 'viewpoint in time' is repeated countless times to better him, until he could 'advance' in his spiritual and psychological development.

Except in the movie, he could remember the last days and use that knowledge to improved/correct his behaviour.

With reincarnation, your identity and memories get nuked every time you die, so no learning or growth is possible beyond one “day”(lifetime). So reincarnation would be pure evil if it existed, pure chaos.

I don’t think God is that bad if an engineer! There are surely better places than this that we simply can’t think of in this form... I have felt His love briefly. It is absolute.
