Does THX 1138's symbolism describe modern society?

This is a quote from George Lucas about THX 1138 (all from the DVD commentary):

“It was designed really to be an experience, a metaphor about the way we lived in the early‘60s, about consumerism, about conformity, disintegration of emotions, about trying to make everything perfect in a way that was nightmarish...The film is meant on a lot of different levels as a metaphor and there’s lots of symbolism of our hero actually building robots, being very godlike in nature, creating men, the men who ultimately chase him and who are the authority figures in this society...The people here are put on drugs and controlled through the belief system that there is a higher being and that higher being has the capacity to give you more units for your job and this. The higher entity is the ultimate boss here but of course again the higher entity doesn’t really exist. And that is the unique thing about this particular society is that there is no villain in the piece, the villain is the society itself but it’s not personified other than a picture of a higher being so as THX’s drugs wear off he becomes less capable of handling his fear and emotion and stress and anxiety and he collapses and then we have a transition into life with emotion.”

Breaking down all the symbolism mentioned above describes most of society's problems today:

consumerism - You are what you eat, you become what you think about, your focus determines your reality. Consumerism keeps the NWO machine going, it keeps people poor, and it keeps people asleep.

conformity - The enemy of individuals.

disintegration of emotions - Don't worry, be happy. Only focus on the positive. If you're feeling down, get drunk or pop a pill. Don't feel your natural emotions, don't be natural. This is the message of our society. Is that positive?

trying to make everything perfect in a way that was nightmarish - Patriot Act, Homeland Security, Health Bill (thank goodness the people finally stood up)

our hero actually building robots, being very godlike in nature, creating men, the men who ultimately chase him and who are the authority figures in this society- Think of teachers whose classrooms are full of future soldiers and policeman who, if martial law is ordered, will hunt down those some teachers. Expand that to every level society including churches, youth clubs, etc. When you consider how we police each other and support tyrannical laws, we're all contributing to "building robots" who will hunt us down in one way or another.

The people here are put on drugs - Drugs can be anything from money to TV to relationships. Anything you're addicted to that gives you a high and keeps you going. All of that is pushed through the media. Practically every character in TV shows and movies is an addict, TPTB want addiction to seem normal, they want it to seem like the answer. If you're addicted to something, anything, you're easier to control.

controlled through the belief system that there is a higher being - "There has never been a religious movement on Earth that wasn't a little political. And, there has never been a political movement that didn't have a little religious." - Jordan Maxwell

that higher being has the capacity to give you more units for your job and this - "Elitism can convince any fool that he/she deserves the perks. Let's call it as it is, corruption." - Alan Watt

"Join our group and god will answer your prayers." Nice sales pitch. That is elitism, thinking that you're better than others and that you deserve special treatment.

The higher entity is the ultimate boss here - Like in Afghanistan where this horrible new law was enacted because of pressure from religious fundamentalists:

of course again the higher entity doesn’t really exist - Why would the corrupt man made system give you anything real? It can't. The system is incapable of giving you anything real, only fiat money, fiat laws, fiat traditions, fiat religions.

as THX’s drugs wear off he becomes less capable of handling his fear and emotion and stress and anxiety - Anyone who's addicted to anything knows what withdrawals feel like. Try facing the world without your favorite drugs (whatever they may be, even the internet) and see how hard it is. Reality is infinitely harder to face when you're sober than when you're drugged.

he collapses and then we have a transition into life with emotion - Death, rebirth, and redemption! We must die to who the system tried to make us (a sellout) and return to who we really are to escape the prison.
