POLICE CHIEFS RESIGNING
POLICE CHIEFS RESIGNING!!

These had an interesting story:

1. Gaithersburg, MD Gaithersburg Police Chief John King resigned with little explanation last week, leaving his colleagues and community members wondering what happened.
2. Guttenberg, IA Police Chief Resigns After Seven Months on the Job, no reason
3. Harrisburg, PA - Richard Pickles retires after serving a month as Harrisburg police chief
4. Culpeper, VA When Scott Barlow announced two weeks ago he would step down from his job as chief of police with the town of Culpeper, it caught a lot of people off guard, including us.
5. Carbondale, IL - Police Chief Resigns, no reason given
6. Austin, MN - Several Austin City Council members said they were "shocked" by Austin Police Chief Paul Philipp's resignation Tuesday morning.
7. Jonesboro, GA - The City of Jonesboro’s new police chief has resigned, five weeks after being named to the top job.
8. Manassas, VA - found this quote: "I hope the Chief enjoys his retirement. Between his service in the Secret Service, Fairfax and Manassas, he’s earned it."
9. West Covina, CA - Tolich, a 21-year veteran of the force, retired nine years before he was eligible for full retirement benefits, Finance Director Thomas Bachman said.
In an email Tolich sent to members of the department, he tells fellow officers that a personal matter involving him and his family led to the sudden departure.

These were either benign stories or little info given. (Bearing in mind that a seasoned cop could probably make a pretty believable alibi for leaving.)

Re: POLICE CHIEFS RESIGNING
Lets say 25 % resigned for a better job offer, 20 % for personal reasons (health, family ect..) and 20 % are retiring - that still leaves 35 % resigning for no reason.
Maybe they know something we don't. Someone needs to interview these chiefs and find out whats up.

Check out the CEO thread currently pinned.

Something's going down, folks, and we will be the last to know. (At least that's the plan.)

Has anyone checked for other suspicious resignations, perhaps a politician thread?

In related news, I am planning a huge vegetable garden this year. How about you?

If we don't know how many chiefs of police resigned nationwide in 08, 07, 06 etc., there's now way to know whether it means anything or not. Maybe this kind of turnover is "normal." Pretty creepy, though.

The thing is, it's paraphrased and you offer no sources. Once you read the article word for word, I'm quite positive the issue changes.

New Haven Police Chief Leaving Department

Chief Lewis Spends 2 Years Rebuilding Department

POSTED: 7:14 pm EST February 19, 2010
UPDATED: 7:41 pm EST February 19, 2010

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Chief James Lewis spent nearly two years rebuilding the New Haven Police Department and says his decision to leave came down to family.

Lewis said he was only at the department to turn it around, most people said he did just that.

Lewis said, "There's a lot for the next chief to do. A lot of things I didn't touch or improve on."

Lewis walked into his office a year-and-a-half ago with the job of fixing a department that was dealing with corruption and scandals. Within a year, he helped to organize and launch a new drug unit which has been responsible for hundreds of arrests.

He said one of the hardest moments was the crash that killed Sgt. Scott Aponte and left officer Diane Gonzalez permanently disabled. The two collided while responding to a domestic violence call.

"Looking at Scott's son, then looking at his son down at the memorial in D.C., maybe I'm getting too emotional because I don't handle it well," Lewis said.

What may have been his biggest exposure, at least to the media around the world, was when Yale graduate student Annie Le was reported missing and then later found dead in the wall of her Yale laboratory.

Lewis said, "We probably could have taken over the investigation a little bit earlier. If we took it over, it would be very obvious through the media that it was a homicide and there were reasons we didn't want it to go down that path."

Lewis is retiring to Wisconsin to be closer to family. He said his time was short but he knows the foundation he built should help the department for years to come.

i really wish someone would speak out about what is going on with all the resignations of people in power.

Possibly a police officer would have the guts to tell the people whats really going on and whats coming.

Re: POLICE CHIEFS RESIGNING
Police Chiefs must qualify for a perticular level of federal security clearance and they must maintain that eligability.

If something happens in their life to make them lose that eligability they will have to step down.

The job of the police is to enforce federal laws--it is a homeland security thing.

This is possibly the reason that SOME might have stepped down.

And you thought your local police belonged to you--not anymore pardner.
