astral or dream ?
I dream of the same places over and over. Places that do not exist - in vivid detail. But the places are very tim-burton-esque. Not real places, but not so outlandish they they could not be real somewhere, some time. For example - a pine forest with white rivers and dolphins. Or a windy clff road that winds all the way around a huge mountain overlooking the expanse on all sides. I'll dream about one place and then revisit the same place a month later, having visited all the rest in the meantime. When I get back to a place in my dream, I am relieved because I know where to go this time 'round.

Are these places all in my head or in the astral?

I've been a vivid and often lucid dreamer all my life and am just now investigating astral travel. I have never had a conscious astral travel experience.

Thanks for any insights anyone may have.

To what extent, then, is the astral in the mind and vice-versa?

I think that having the type of oob experience I have read about - seeing my own self sleeping in real time - would help me understand better. I've never had that kind of experience.

I've always chalked the dream worlds up as just that until i starting reading about astral travel and had a loved one with a sus[ected oobe.

Re: astral or dream ?
the mind is the fourth dimension or density. it corresponds to an entire world of its own. if you are self-conscious, you experience this world as astral travel. if you are not self-conscious, you experience it as a dream. it is the degree of awareness that determines whether it is a a sound sleep, a dream, lucid dream or OOBE.

Thanks for helping me sort this all out.

I wonder to what extent this fourth/mind dimension is individual or collective ... any thoughts?

Maybe in-between - like "connected"?

Re: astral or dream ?
yes, connected.

there is both the collective mind as well as the individual mind. the two intersect with each other.

Re: astral or dream ?
sometimes things in your dream or in the astral may be a product of the collective mind more than of your own mind. sometimes the contrary is true. sometimes it is a mix (intersection) of both.

Re: astral or dream ?
do you have an opinion about the best way to be self aware while in the astral?

I read on another forum today about "dissolving the dream" and it sounds like the only method that would work for me because it is very hard for me to relax and focus without falling asleep.

I only had only one OOBE in my life and it was by accident. the only advice I can give you is to not be too much comfortable when attempting an OOBE, otherwise you will fall asleep depending on your level of energy. try a chair or some other kind of not-so-comfortable position that still allows you to relax.

hf

Thanks, I'll try that.

I posted in another thread about my husband's infirmed grandma who talks like she had an oobe and "goes back there" often.

She talked about a silver string on her back and seeing "the little tinker and the little miner" or "the little green guy and the little purple fella" (always a pair) when she goes, and I'm sort of investigating that.

I'd like to see if I can have a similar experience.

My evolutionary path in the dream realm exploded after I read the book, "The Art of Dreaming", by Castaneda.

You might want to read his first book or two before reading this one just to get you acquainted with what's going on.

Remember take it all with a grain of salt, and never underestimate the power of intention.
Try, retry, and try again.

Re: astral or dream ?
yea ive had that before. a dream where you know where you are in the dream but you dont know it when you awake. and then you end up back there in another dream and its like going back to a familiar place.

Re: astral or dream ?
Here's some tips I've learn over the years.

I use to not be able to fall asleep on my back. So if I woke up in the middle of the night, and didn't have any stressful plans for the next day (not a work day), I'd lie on my back and wait for the transition to take place. It use to be scary at times, but now it's easy.

So my point is, find a sleeping position you can't normally fall asleep in, especially after you've already dosed off for a few hours.

I've also found that sometimes I wake up in the early morning hours with an upset stomach/intestine. After relief, I go back to bed and have major success in vivid/conscientious dreams. I can only guess it's from the release of toxins in your body, or the lack of energy being used on digestion.

Re: astral or dream ?
Sleep aids have helped me immensely. Back when GHR (the brother of GHB) was legal and manufactured by legal companies (not out of someones bathtub), I'd jump straight into the deep dream state. It was designed just for that. I evolved immensely with it.

But GHR is illegal now. So on occasion I use Melatonin. You can buy it at the grocery store. It's non-addictive (trust me), has no hangover effect, and helps me go that extra step in reaching consciousness in my dreams.

The beauty of dreams is that you really can evolve in/with/thru it.
This evolution never leaves it only gets stronger!!!

Sorry, just did a search on GHR, I guess it's still legal.
