Quoting: Anonymous Coward 882014Or dealing drugs. I disagree. Complacency is perpetuating the system. Extreme imbalance, overwhelming welfare, stealing or drugs will eventually break the system. Forcing the system to change. Otherwise, it is not going to happen. |

Far too many young people are cursed by the image and fact of unemployability. I'm glad someone is trying to do something about it. |

As much as I hate cheap WalMart crap I think this is a good thing. -Everything's more awesome when you lean into it. |

I wish both the school system, and the students the best of luck; I hope it works out. In ten years we'll look back on this moment, laugh nervously, and quickly change the subject. |

I wish both the school system, and the students the best of luck; I hope it works out. Art, I agree with what you say in theory. However, the sad reality, is there aren't going to be any jobs for them to get, and if they are, they will be competing with every other 20-50 year old (modest estimate) who is unemployed and trying to get the same job. Nothing at all wrong with teaching skills. The thing is, they are perpetuating a fantasy world where there are just tons of jobs for everyone. It simply isn't so, unfortunately. |

At least this way, there's the illusion of hope. Sometimes, that's all one has to hang onto. Exhibit A User ID: 889055 Canada 02/12/2010 06:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I agree with it, how is this any different then technical school? They are teaching the kids a REAL skill, front line customer service. Let's get real, how many of these inner city kids are going to use calculus and trigonometry? Not many. But if I was a business owner who needed someone to stock shelves, clean, or run a cash machine I would definitely choose a graduate of this type of training over a kid who had higher level scholastics. I don't need an English major to sweep the floor, I need a kid who will shut up and do his job and not bother my customers. |

Tax payers shouldn't be paying for their free training. School is supposed to be for educating! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 790458it's all in how you define "education" isn't it? Anonymous Coward User ID: 642285 United States 02/12/2010 06:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The amazing thing to me is that some "ethnic" types must be taught to work at WalMart? Is there something intellectually difficult about being surely to customers and ignoring people you are supposed to be serving? I thought those traits all came quite naturally to the main group still living in or around Detroit! And now they tell me that the schools feel friggin' WALMARTS are such a major part of life in this once fair burg that it is worth while to teach these low IQ students the non-existent skill set it takes to work there? What shit. What utter bullshit! WALMART IS SUCH A SHITHOLE IF THEY WERE DOING ANYTHING FOR THEIR COMMUNITY THEY WOULD TEACH THESE KIDS WHY THEY SHOULD NEVER SHOP THERE _ MUCH LESS CONSIDER WORKING THERE. The place is vile, duplicitous and would cheat anyone including their own mother to grind out an extra one cent per thousand of profit! |
