From the Fee page-

Fees for businesses are based on two major factors: 1) how much police service your type of business uses and 2) the size of your business and how much traffic it generates.

Using records from police calls, the SLVLESA created a fee structure that reflects the service demand by the type of business. Businesses that use law enforcement services more are asked to pay more. Your bill is based on the classification you have reported to Salt Lake County Business Licensing and the State of Utah Department of Workforce Services.

The number of employees at a business is also factored in because a larger workforce affects traffic enforcement costs. Your bill will be calculated based on the number of employees you report to the Utah State Division of Workforce Services.

You will receive three bills in 2010 (March, June, September) that are payable within 30 days. After 30 days, we will assess a 10% late payment penalty. There is no discount for a prepayment or an early payment.

From the FAQ,

What if I refuse to pay the fee?

A lien could be placed against your property. It’s a penalty similar to what would be assessed if you were deficient on a property tax payment or sanitation district fee. By state statute, the law enforcement fee has the same primacy in terms of the property tax during the lien proceedings.

I feel sorry for the people that purchased a home there.
Once they institute a tax....

They will be unable to sell their homes or business.

What is the #1 reason for government?

The number 1 reason to pay for government is that you and your property are both protected from foreign invaders and local criminals.

EVERYTHING else that government claims to do is secondary to protection.

So if these Utah politicians can't free up money to pay cops and sheriffs to protect people's lives and property; ALL residents of Utah should hold back 100% of their state and local taxes.

If no one paid into the system, suddenly the politicians would find that they could cut government funded B.S. and return funding for what is Necessary.

Somebody needs to file a class action suit and tie this up in the courts forever. This is just more government fraud. They keep dropping services and keep increasing taxes and fees.

It's time to put the brakes on this criminals.

Read the FAQ page. It is a fckin joke. They have cut as much as they can.

Based on there fees, one wal-mart is $100,000/year.
In addition to all the other taxes they pay.

They could have their own police force for all those taxes.

The Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area has instituted a fee for those in unincorporated Salt Lake County. The first bill will arrive March 1, 2010, and it will be due on April 1, 2010.

It might very well be a joke.
It sure sounds like a joke.

Either that or the mafia has taken over the salt lake city police dept.

Didn't anyone read earlier this week that all levels of government is billions upon billions of dollars short in covering the pension and retiree medical life long benefits.

Now where do we think they will be getting the monies needed to meet these requirements, raising our f-in taxes to give individuals something that none of us will ever receive.

When will the sheep realize that we work for the public sector, not the other way as they claim. The only good we will ever amount to is paying for what we are not entitled to, until this cycle is broken, it will continue to get worst.

Until the day, when the only ones working are working for the government, we will gladly pay and if not they take it, so either way we all are F'ed until the end.

This is true. Go to the site and look at the fees for businesses. Community Grocery Stores with 20 -49 employees are being charge $25,620.00 per year. Super Centers with 250-499 employees are being charged $87,516.00 per year. They say the short fall is $13 million. Published in the local paper there are 170,000 residents in unincorporated Salt Lake County. 170,000 x $174.00 = over $29 million. This doesne't include what they will collect from businesses ($87,000 from Walmart alone). Why are they collecting several times the amount of the $13 million shortfall??
Not only do we have to pay a fee as residents but you can bet our groceries will go up when stores are forced to pay $25,000 extra a year.

This is such bullshit. The only reason we have government in the first place is to protect our assets from other citizens and foreign invaders. People already pay for this protection! Seriously, might be cheaper to just hire blackwater mercs to do it, instead of blackmail. Pay our protection fee or don't operate a business here.
