There was a sharp drop in the solar x-ray flux just before the quake hit, and this drop may very well have a connection to the collapse of the filament earlier in the week.

I think this theory makes a lot of sense as it would explain the change in color of the sky prior to the earthquake as the lady on CNN was describing. charged particles entering the earth along one of the field lines would certainly have an affect on the sky as they ionize the atmosphere. i have been looking a lot more at magnetic/electric interactions on the large scale. I think huge charge differentials are possible over certain locations on the earth and this causes the very ground itself to move creating the earthquake as a fault slips or sheers under the stress.

exactly. i can't recall a big flare/cme/sun activity that hasn't been followed by a decent sized quake. this 1 million km long filament was the largest recorded, it collapsed, now we have one of the largest quakes of all time (recorded time) that we have ever witnessed on earth.

it's NOT a coincidence and the sooner people realize that the better off we'll be at understanding and preparing for what is to come.
