The only thing I've got to say is, who in the fuck designed the ETs at the beginning cause they are completely useless. I mean cmon, getting trapped behind a wall? They can travel in space vast distances but when they walk the waddle around? Anyways, stupid stuff like that is why the movie is awesome lol |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 19168269 United States 07/20/2012 05:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If anyone on this board has connections to NBC I just want to say that you guys at SyFy have a bevy of loyal viewers that are ready to come back to your channel. In order for that to happen, the channel needs return to its roots and put in some quality science fiction programming. By sci-fi programming I do not mean countless reruns of Stargate SG1 either. That's what made people stop watching in the first place. Put in some X-Files, Twilight Zone (original series), movies like Total Recall, and mini-series like Lost Room. Then you'll be on your way. |
IWant2Believe User ID: 4888930 United States 07/20/2012 06:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yup they have been going down hill for a while now. I don't even have cable TV any more. I watch Netflix or I stream stuff online that I wanna watch. Greed is for amateurs. Disorder, chaos, anarchy: now that's fun! I am insane. And you are my insanity. I raise my flags, don my clothes It's a revolution, I suppose We'll paint it red to fit right in. I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus This is it, the apocalypse. I'm waking up, I feel it in my bones Enough to make my systems blow. Welcome to the new age! |

The good 'ol Saturday night movie about some stupid animal that was genetically fused with some other stupid animal. Piranhaconda. Really? Get a clue SyFy. Save your budget and make one or two good movies per year instead of 30 bad ones. |

I do the same and stream stuff online using the Roku. NetFlix is pretty good although they need to update their online catalog to include more contemporary movies. For DVD's I've been using Blockbuster @ Home but the service is painfully slow. Where NetFlix movies used to arrive the next day, Blockbuster takes about a week to get a movie out. I don't think that Blockbuster will survive much longer either unless they speed up their service. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 19168269 United States 07/20/2012 06:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | agree. Most of the channels are nothing like they were set up to be. There is little music to be found on MTV, VH1, I remember when there was. Headline news has way too much stupid shit for me to watch anymore. Even the history channel has sold out to mindless reality programs. And don't let your sick child sitting up late at night watch cartoonnetwork, theres some nasty adult programming on there. I had to get off cable altogether. garbage. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8640456 That is exactly what I don't understand. MTV has no music on it and the same goes for the other music networks. Yet they have tons of junk that has nothing to do with music. Headline news used to be a good place to catch up on the latest happenings around the world. Now there are no more headlines, just shows about news events. It feels like tv programmers have gone full retard as of late. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 19168269 United States 07/20/2012 06:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to love the History Channel until it became redneck central. Now, finding a show that actually has some historical basis to it is very difficult. Pawn Stars? Really? Ice Road Truckers was cool the first time around but do I really want to watch all those douchebags driving up and down some mountain in South America as part of a different reality show? Now H2, formerly History International, has the historical shows while History Channel has nothing but reality crap. Then again, History networks is also run by NBC. Surprise, surprise. It seems like NBC networks are all shitty. Fire everybody and start over. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5073178 I used to like Warehouse 13 until they brought in the gay character. Was it really necessary to bring in someone gay? I thought the show was about science fiction. That's the problem with shows today, they bring in stuff that turns people off and then the ratings plummet. Programmers are clueless and still don't understand why people stop watching their show. |

I noticed the decline in quality even before the SciFi/SyFy change, but it definitely accelerated after that. I often wondered why all of the really low-grade 'horror' films and other junk like wrestling was put on the channel. Some Sci-Fiers are into horror, but most of the folks I know are not; definitely not wrestling or the other C-grade or minus material that they have now. It's all so degrading. Sci-Fi as a genre used to be interesting, futuristic, and reaching for something new. The SyFy channel is degrading. I feel like my IQ goes down when I watch it. I find myself speculating that this is part of a trend across the media to dumb-down folks and promote a culture of violence. Too bad... The media could have lifted humanity and taken us to better things. Instead it's all the lowest common denominator and going down from there. Work in your garden, listen to an audio book, and marvel at the natural world around you instead. |

It was great when they had Starlight, Battlestar Galactic, etc. Now, what do they have worth watching? Quoting: AlcoholicRunner The WWE, of course. Just kidding. If the people at SyFy were smart, they would partner up with GLP and create a weekly "news" program based on GLP threads. Imagine the ratings that show would get especially when people are following threads like "Something just went BEZERK in the Gulf of Mexico..." People all over the world would be tuning in for those news updates. The beauty of it is that the program could put a synopsis of really long threads and condense them into a few minutes of news. I would be willing to bet that GLP News on SyFy would get better ratings than anything on CNN. People at SyFy, are you listening? Of course not. |

I was a loyal Sci-Fi Channel viewer until "the dumbening" happened. I still have all my favourite shows and series and movies downloaded so I can re-create an a/v playlist based on TV Guide listings from the 90's. I actually got rid of television once and for all after The Dumbening. I do everything online now. |

Could not have said it better myself especially the part where you say that the media could have been used to uplift humanity. It's almost like the cabal wanted us dumbed down and that's why they put crap on tv instead of wholesome stuff. The world could be a utopia if not for the evil shit that they keep feeding us. Have you noticed that all movies now have a bad ending where the evil-doers succeed? Serial killers that live on to kill another day are the flavor of the moment, it seems. |

TPTB cringe when they hear that people are leaving tv for the web. They can't control the flow of information online like they can over tv. They tried to control the internet several times and have failed miserably. AOL tried to be a hub of information but didn't last long. MySpace, then Facebook, also tried to control information but people are leaving in droves. Wikipedia is also a hub of information but no one believes anything on there anymore. It seems like the days of media control of the masses are numbered and that has scared the hell out of TPTB. |

It was one of the scenarios we discussed actually. That the whole deal was a script in the making. We uncovered all this stuff, and realised it was the research for FRINGE! LOL. (the stuff we uncovered, not the thread - that's still an on going process) I used to look on with envy here in Australia at the US SciFi channel, as our version was totally shit. Then we got pretty much all you guys got in the US. Pretty dull. And it's not f'ing sci-fi!!! A lot of it is horror or fantasy. Surely, with so much stuff to choose from - Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds, U.F.O, Space Above and Beyond, Battlestar Galactica (old and new), Buck Rogers, The Tomorrow People, Dark Skies (not falling skies), Defying Gravity, Babylon 5, Survivors (not the game show), V (old and new), X-files, Farscape, Firefly, The Outer Limits, Time Tunnel, The Invaders, Quantum Leap, Heros, Sliders, Dark Angel, Andromeda, Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy, Quark, The 4400, BLAKE's 7, Space 1999, Roswell, Lexx, Earth 2, Millenium, Earth Final Conflict, Planet of the Apes, Taken, Aeon Flux, Primeval, Cruisade, In Search Of, Giant Robot, SeaQuest DSV, Battleship Yamato, Battle of the Planets, hell, even MacGyver! - they could do a better mix. I'm not even listing all the anime or old sci-fi cartoons. Plus of course we have all the Star Treks etc. They could pick up Dark Skies, Defying Gravity, Heroes right now and they'd be a success. (especially Defying Gravity, which pissed me off enough to write to them after they canned it.) Oh, and Caprica. How could they can Caprica!! [monitors blood pressure..] |

Actually, the OZ version does have some good stuff. I sent an email to the program director congratulating him on a lot of the more 'fringe' 911 stuff that we talk about here. I kinda got hooked with reruns of SG-1 before the channel moved to digital only, but apparently didn't miss much as good scifi programs dropped away and wrestling and bad movies came on board. It's also kind of freaky how more and more programs across networks have similar characters played by stunningly lookalike actors and actressess. On the other hand, it's been kind of fun to see the characters bleed across shows in episodes occasionally. Thinking of W13 and Eureka, primarily, but there are others. Oh well... |
