While a very intriguing thing has taken place, can we honestly just look at it and say its water? Could it be some other chemical that ices and melts?

NASA thinks there is water and is looking for hard evidence of water. They hope to find liquid or water ice to end the 'debate'.

Looking at images and seeing black spots appear then disappear may add validity to the claim 'there may be water on Mars' - however science demands actually proof, as in a sample of water from Mars.

These two photos are a good find, however they only show evidence of something having changed.

Either the waterimages are fake or some kind of illusion, or Mars must have a substantial atmosphere to be able to prevent the water from evaporating in a very thin atmosphere and weaker gravity.
Besides, Mars has very little magnetic field strength, so lethal cosmic radiation easily penetrates Mars' surface, making it extremely difficult for it to maintain some sort of biosphere.

The changes between images taken of the same spot of Mars are always interesting. However, after looking several HiRIse images I've achieved the conclusion that many areas of Mars that look as water, are indeed sand, and the "ripples in the water" are dunes. Mars has an atmosphere dense enough to produce massive sand movements (sandstorms) than would explain the changing patterns. I do not pretend to say that there is no water on Mars, but standing open water ponds are unlikely.

They wouldn't be so excited about Mars and sending so many probes there for nothing.
Russia's last year attempt failed but they keep working with Nasa on it, and have their unique instruments on Curiosity, while from the other side works with ESA on sending humans out there.
