Besides the Japanese have a weird relationship with the USA. After WW2 they thought the USA would basically annex Japan and be very harsh to the people. It was the exact opposite. We did the marshal plan which allowed Japan to grow strong enough that many in the US thought Japan would be a super power in the 80's. My grandpa used to tell me how when he was in Japan the strange respect the Japanese citizens had for Americans. They were told the Americans would rape and kill everyone. Instead we rebuild their country and give them freedom. Just look a General Douglas McAruthur. He was a flawed man for sure but a great great man also. He oversaw occupation and shaped Japan to what it is now. Many Japanese loved him. Now it's ~60 years later and many Japanese forget how easily Japan could have been annexed by the USA or split between the USA and USSR which would have been a real nightmare for them. Japan is still a very proud nation though and still isolated in many ways. They don't have a strong enough military to attack anyway so you don't need to worry about any sneak attacks. In reality, the aims of the United States are the same as the required outcomes of both China and Japan. They are under control, as is the United States. When there are "problems" in this area, look elsewhere for the true game that is being played. Turkey, NATO, Syria, Israel, and Iran are the pawns in the current game. All others are in play, but not at the top. |

By the end of this decade, the country will need to import more than 60 percent of its crude compared with about 50 percent now and one third of its natural gas, according to estimates from China Petroleum & Chemical Industry Federation. “China has to look for offshore fields to deliver the energy supply it needs as onshore fields are exhausted,” said Lin Boqiang, director of the China Center for Energy Economics Research at Xiamen University in Fujian province. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda yesterday called for talks to contain economic damage from the diplomatic dispute with China. He reiterated that the islands are “Japan’s inherent territory” in an interview with Bloomberg News. Saudi-Sized Reserves The sea east of China may hold as much as 160 billion barrels of oil and the South China Sea 213 billion, according to Chinese studies cited by the U.S. Energy Information Agency. Combined, the reserves would be bigger than Saudi Arabia’s 265 billion barrels and enough to supply China’s needs for a century based on 2011 consumption data provided by BP Plc. (BP/) Gaining control over the largely untapped areas in the South China and East China Seas would help China avoid Japan’s postwar energy model, where its security is largely staked on oil tanker supplies originating 7,700 kilometers (4,800 miles) from Tokyo in the Middle East. “China is concerned about the long term,” said Hoo [link to www.bloomberg.com] |

The report, "Diaoyu Islands Dispute: U.S. Treaty Obligations," was released on Sept. 25 by the U.S. Congressional Research Service and clarifies the U.S. government stand on the sovereignty issue. The U.S. government position was also echoed by Henry Kissinger in his latest remarks reported by global media. During U.S. Senate deliberations in October 1971 on whether to consent to the ratification of the "Okinawa Reversion Treaty," the U.S. State Department asserted that the United States took a neutral positi.. If i wasn't for the U.S.A., China would have attacked anytime after WWII til today. Without that protection, Japan would be toast. Question is, could China do it and get away with it.
