Is it possible that the moon was bombarded by something (an asteroid, etc) that was large enough to knock it out of its normal orbit? If that is the case, could the moon's new orbit slam it into the earth, destroying us all? AHHHHH!!!!! |

You didn't get up early morning or you realised that you made a fool of yourself? . Number one: I couldn't see it if I tried today...clouds were along the back of my house and I live in the city. And whether or not I make a fool out of myself to you, family or friends, or strangers matters not to me. Number two: I never said anything negative about anything you said on this thread so why worry about said karma? Guilty much? ummhummmm. Number three: The only thing I did was question your pic in which you never answered any of my questions. If you're upset about that you're being kind of weird. I wouldn't be upset if I put my pics out and no one cared as I do it whenever time allows. I would care even less if I didn't take the photo. Number four: Maybe I'll give out some good karma today to people who need it. Because what goes around, comes around. And I'm a good person despite all you may think. You don't know me. And at this point maybe that's best because the true nature of a person is found in the way they talk to a stranger. LEARN HOW TO BE KIND OR BE LEFT BEHIND. OXOXO |

Field rotation is not dependent on the season. And yes, field rotation was described long before NASA was founded. Here's a reference from 1900: [link to adsabs.harvard.edu] Siderostats and heliostats do not use polar alignment and are therefore subject to field rotation. So are you when you're viewing the moon by eye. This problem is eliminated in a polar aligned telescope and indeed the moon is seen to be waning from the side, not from the top, in such a telescope. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 26077737 United States 11/06/2012 10:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Um I was a bit busy here but if you want a response here it is: If you trust what the government sells you than I feel sorry for you because all they sell is BS. Right, they're lying about field rotation. If you seriously believe that, and if you seriously believe that in the early 70's they "faked" that photo so that 40 years later I could come along and show that the moon's orientation is normal, then you're fucking insane. I believe in amateur photos...like they ones that get passed down generation to generation. You trust your i-telescope? How about your digital telescope? You trust Stellarium (I'm having real trouble with this one...I don't trust it but it's all that I have)? You trust NASA? Quoting: idiotYes I trust my telescope. I know how to polar align it jackass, and guess what I see when I do so... a vertical moon even when by eye it looks "horizontal" as it did this weekend! Guess what my amateur photo would have shown had I taken one of the moon this weekend? A vertical moon! Why? Because my telescope was polar aligned, as was nearly every serious amateur telescope back when the above photo was taken (telescopes used for astrophotography back then were all equatorial). You know what I trust? My eyes. And my gut. And photos that never even dreamed of being photo-shopped. That's what I believe in. Quoting: idiotPhotoshop didn't exist back then. Furthermore, there'd be no reason to fucking forge an image like that back then. And I'll tell you something else. Even with a field rotation you would still see the pictures the same today as you did then if nothing has changed. Quoting: idiotI JUST SHOWED YOU ONE YOU FUCKING MORON! And by the way idiot, if they faked that image of the rocket on the pad with the moon in the background in the 70's, why didn't anyone yell about it back then and scream "fake?" Because it was perfectly normal to see the moon like that, just as it is today! Tell me, how the fuck did the moon look vertical in my polar aligned telescope this weekend while by eye it looked "horizontal"? If it's not field rotation, then what is it? Hmm? Answer that. Oh, it's because my telescope has a computer in it? How does the computer magically rotate the image of the moon? Eh? It's polar aligned, it's a physical alignment, there's not a damn thing the computer can do to change that! Once polar aligned, the computer either puts the moon in the field of view, or it doesn't, there's nothing it can do to "rotate" the view of the moon to make it look normal! Learn some astronomy! You're a dumbass. NOBODY accused anyone of faking the photo 40 years ago. But, it would certainly be possible to take an old photo like that TODAY and use computer software to take a vertical crescent moon and tilt it to be hiorizontal. That's what I contend happened here. Your shill tactics of setting up an absurd accusation that nobody made won't work here wher epeople can think critically. Go take your PTB paycheck and shill elsewhere asshole. |

Certain times of the year are more common for certain phases because the moon's orbit is angled with respect to the ecliptic. The observer's location and observation time also matter.
