What causes such a cycle, I have my own theories on that, but keep that to myself for now.
I think it is that we all move (the sun with the planetary system and the earth/ the Oort cloud with the comets) and at some points our paths cross each other. Im my understanding there is a period of nearly 200 earth years for the appearance of the biggest fragments of the comet that broke up centuries ago (as the theory goes). So if the last big ones were in the late 1800's maybe we will see them back around 2080 +_ 40 years. That is if nothing else interferes.
Yeah, I have to agree and just as we see here on Earth and other planets near by. There is also weather that can and does have diverse and sometimes unpredictable results. For instance massive rains dump in the mountains and downstream the rivers burst their banks, rocks fall in and the roll on effect can cause considerable damage (like dominoes). I am sure the entire universe and the interconnect of systems also have seasonal weather patterns (sometimes uncharacteristic) and those rivers flow through our system (so to speak). I'm sure the electron winds at times go through a very active period of energetic output (caused by other events) which in turn push our own (and other) heliospheric bubble and perturb the outermost ring of fragments (oort), thus causing some internal chaos for some time (in human years). But for now, we experience minor variances which I would consider quite regular and normal :)
Original Message
I have witnessed many sungrazers and have watched for any reactions from the sun and even some of the smaller comets have garnered a response from the sun...I think we might just see more "fireworks from this one. (I will embed smilies as soon as a mod approves)
