People say writing is "convoluted" when you don't make your points clearly, using well-constructed sentences written with a consistent grammar style and building a coherent argument structure systematically, so that as they read, they have to keep a growing collection of points and ideas in their head and sometimes it fails to all come together because people lose track of the points you are trying to make and/or because they lose interest.
