Michigan considers immigration law like Arizona's

SAGINAW -- (05/10/10) -- Two weeks after Arizona's governor signed a controversial immigration reform bill into law, there is talk a similar law in Michigan.

Republican State Rep. Kim Meltzer of Clinton Township plans to introduce legislation modeled after Arizona's law. Meltzer said her bill would allow police to arrest illegal aliens who were stopped or questioned for another reason.

A Michigan lawmaker believes the state's law enforcement officers need the authority to arrest illegal immigrants and is drafting legislation similar to Arizona's new immigration law.

Rep. Kim Meltzer, R-Clinton Township, said her bill would allow police to request proof of citizenship from people who are stopped and questioned on another offense, such as a traffic violation or selling fraudulent identity documents. Officers would have the authority to arrest people who can't prove their legal status.

"We have borders in place for a reason," Meltzer said. "Everyone should play by the rules."

I think Michigan has other things to worry about at the moment, perhaps they should take on one thing at a time, starting with figuring out what to do with Detroit.

Given Michigan's really high unemployment rate, this should easily pass.

Maybe the illegals do not have the best of jobs, but there are plenty of Americans there with no job who would be willing and able to do them.

They need to get rid of the illegal Muslim immigrants. Dearborn is home to an EXTREMELY large muslim population. I think the largest in America.

Fucking filthy British. It gives "Cheese eating surrender monkies" with respect to the French, a whole new meaning, too.

Heh you've had your nail polished to a magical sheen by mud from the Dead Sea too ...

Look it has nothing to do with whether it's a border place or not. Deport them to wherever they're citizens of. Just because Detroit happens to be next to Canada does not mean that the illegals are Canadians or should be deported to Canada.

ALL ILLEGAL aliens should be thrown out. It isn't about color or religion. From the Canadian posts on GLP, it seems they should all flee north to Canada where they would be welcomed as being victimized by nasty racist Americans. Until the Canadians figured it out. Maybe it would teach Canadians to MTOB.
